curious.. server names

can someone from jag possible give me some insight on where the heck you guys get some of the server names? some of them are a bit strange... just curious

We get server hostnames from all over the place. Many are space related since we are in Houston that seemed appropriate. That of course ties into ancient mythology so we have gone on tangents in that realm in the past. Some are named after things that we like such sci-fi or fantasy like Star Wars or Lord or the Rings. Just garden variety nerd stuff. I do recall a few are named after American Football players. (Sanders and... some other i cant think of off the top of my head) Many of them are just grabbed out of the air as well.


Greg makes a list of hostnames from time to time and I keep that so when a new server comes online I just grab names for them there or I'll go pester some of the staff to see if they have any suggestions.

If you have a question about a particular one just ask and we can try to figure out who picked the name and why.
