    strange screen flicker

my monitor has this really annoying screen flicker at times... i tried replacing the VGA cable once.. didnt fix it.. ive tried another monitor.. same thing... i put a new video card in the computer... same thing... anyone have any thoughts as to why this happens? i thought it may be interference from a cell phone or router or such... but the router is 20 feet away in my wiring closet and i turned off my phone.. very annoying...

i have an HP desktop and an HP lcd monitor (package for a good deal at circuit city) i love it when its not flickering... but when it is.. gahh hurts me eyes! the computer and monitor both are only about a month old.. i submitted a support ticket to HP about the problem to see what they said and they wanted me to pay to ship the computer off to them to have it checked

anyone have any ideas as to why this is doing this?

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce today would cost $100, get a million miles to the gallon, and explode once every few weeks.

My scripts never have bugs. They just develop random features.

It sounds like the internal power supply on the monitor to me.

It might be the flourescent tube...
    Good luck

i thought it was a grounding issue myself.. so i tried the same monitor on a different computer across the house.. worked fine.. also did the same flicker with an old CRT monitor i had lying around.. i tried moving the computer to a different circuit but the same annoying flicker.. there must be something wrong with the mobo because it seems to stay with this computer.. even with an aftermarket nvidia agp graphics card installed...

ya.. the native on the specs is 1400x900... which is what i have it set at.. unless i am using a movie editing program i have which requires me to lower it to 1360x768... this issue is bogglin my brain

ya.. the card it came with was onboard.. which generally speaking, the graphics suck and also it had the flicker issue.. so i got an AGP nvidia card... the flicker issue followed to the AGP card.. i found a PCI one in my desk but vista doesnt support it so i havnt tried it.. not sure what the issue is.. HP tech support is not being cooperative.. they want me to ship the computer and the monitor to them.. and they want me to pay for the shipping there and back.. which is absurd..

It's a system board then, if the onboard did it. I guess it could be windows though. Have you tried blowing away your display adaptor in windows? (be ready with driver CDs in case you need safe mode)

well i used the device manager and uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the driver for both the onboard and the AGP card... i tried also booting into a centos partition i have on a spare hard drive that i normally use if a system corrupts and needs repair.. flicker happened in centos as well.. im guessin it is a system board.. guess i will have to convince HP to pay the shipping or cough up the 100 bucks (UPS is rediculous!)

Are all the connections on the monitor itself tight? I know dumb question but ya never know.

HP has gone down the tubes since merging with Compact for sure.
