Thumbs up Son of a ..... IMAP comes to Gmail

Yesterday, I read that Google was going to make IMAP available on Gmail.

Supposedly, it's already available on some accounts.. so I just checked.

Sure enough! One of my Gmail accounts has it - one of them, not yet.

    w00t!

    Gonna go play with it...

    EDIT

    Here's a screenie...

DISCLAIMER Any resemblance between the views expressed above and those of the owners and operators of this system is purely coincidental. Any resemblance between these views and my own are non-deterministic. The existence of Vin DSL is questionable. The existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them is problematic. The existence of the reader is left as an exercise in the second-order coefficient.

    LoL!

    I'm creamin' myself here...

I just created a folder for my SourceForge.net stuff, and moved the messages into it. Took seconds!

When I checked it on Gmail, it was listed in the "Labels" - I guess that's Gmaileesh for "Folders"...

I've been wanting to clean up my Gmail accounts for over 3 years (early adopter), but never could figure out their web mail interface.

Bwahahaha! I feel like I hit the lottery...

Hey, Dogman, I got some unanswered mail in there from you in 2005. Sorry!

Is it too late to reply?

    Aha!

"Starred" is Gmaileesh for set the "High Priority" flag.

Sheesh! Why can't they just call it what it is?!?!?!?

The whole Gmail thing is starting to make sense, now that I've ripped into their soft underbelly!

    Isn't IMAP great?

    You know what?

Now that I know how Gmail is put together, there's no reason why I couldn't clone a Gmail skin for Squirrelmail - call it Vmail or something.

    Hrm...

I'm running NETSTAT in the background, just to make sure Google isn't up to some nonsense - and I saw 'goliath:http' in there.

It spooked me, then I realized it's probably the Jag web server... LoL!

Kinda sounds like a Google-ish name, yes?

    Oops! Check that!

"Starred" simply means "Flagged", not "Flagged as High Priority"...

Yeah, all I use is IMAP, and web interfaces (which are IMAP)... so it's a BIG deal to me!

    Yep! Definitely!

IMAP is the way to go, unless you're a woman, or something...

I gave up on POP3 when I used to get 25k-50k spams a day.

Outlook would lock up after, like, 15k mails... that's when I started using IMAP full time.

Anyway, listen to me on this... you don't know what you're missing, if you've never used IMAP!

POP3 is like eating Chinese food - you always want more!
