Is it normal for domain propagation to take more than 48 hrs?

Screw 1and1 *___*. I'm stuck with them. Everytime I change my domain dns setting it takes up to 48 hours. This time it takes 54 hours already and the change is not reflected yet.

Sigh.... Never ever buys hosting service or domain from them again

No doubt about it they are slow at propagating DNS changes. I just transfered away from them and went to namecheap.com

I have been wondering about this:
Will the transfer cause any downtime?
Is there any risk involve? Since I believe I have to unlock my domain before transfering?

No, there is no risk. You just unlock the domain at 1&1, initiate the transfer at the new registrar you choose, and once the transfer goes through you can lock the domain again at the new place (if they don't do it for you automatically). Usually (at least the last time I did a transfer) you will gain a year on your registration as part of the transfer cost. Regardless, though, you won't lose the remaining time you have on your current registration.

There are some cases where the losing registrar can block your transfer request. Take a look at the Internic domain transfer FAQ (http://www.icann.org/transfers/dnholder-faq-03nov04.htm) for more info about the transfer process.

No downtime and risk - well there is risk with crossing the street no? People unlock there status all the time and transfer domains - what risk there is I do not know.

The problem is: I also have 2 subdomains ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com pointing to the nameserver. Will that cause any problem?

    Regards.

I doubt it. I've never moved a domain that has registered nameservers before, but I would assume the nameservers would be transferred with everything else.

Note to make sure you don't make the mistake I did, all the literature I read never indicated or wasn't clear that in addition to the nameservers you also had to change the IP's at the registrar. Didn't help that my registrar only allowed the nameservers to be changed but the IP's had to be changed by them.

I waited about 48 hours like you and nothing happened, I had another ticket in here to make sure the nameservers were set up correctly and the Jag tech brought it to my attention. Took about 1 hour after I called they switched the IP's to the correct ones.

    Huh?

Are you talking about private nameservers @ 1&1?

If so, they have nothing to do with JagPC...
