If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce today would cost $100, get a million miles to the gallon, and explode once every few weeks.

My scripts never have bugs. They just develop random features.

Instead of Lightbox for Wordpress - I would substitute for Slimbox
    http://www.4mj.it/slimbox-wordpress-plugin/

Also plugins from GaMerz such as usersonline, db backup, etc.

With all due respect, I'm sure, I don't see any difference between Lightbox and Slimbox...

Slimbox doesn't adjust itself to your screen size - same as Lightbox!

In what way is it different?

    Just curious...

It appears to be MUCH smaller in size Vin...

That is the only difference I see.

    Right
Slimbox is about 15kb js where as lightbox is 120kb or so. For me that's a difference of 400mb served in js a day vs 50mb

Akismet is a definite must have.

Bad Behavior is also excellent for denying spambots and other evil doers access to your site.

Since I use the <!––more––> tag in my blog, Full Text Feed is a must for me too (makes WP send out the full feed, instead of a truncated one).

Finally, WP Database Backup has been very useful for me.

    I see...

    15KB? Really?

    I'm gonna go download it...

Ah, okay, I get it now...

Slimbox 1.41 requires that MooTools be installed on the server.

You running MooTools framework too? How big is that?

MooTools should be included in that download for slimbox. All-in-all all javascript related to the "lightbox" effect should be approx 15kb.

Of course if you're already using prototype for some other effects on your site, you should just stick with your current Lightbox plugin

    Heh! This is confusing...

Okay, the Lighbox v2 code that I run was authored by Lokesh Dhakar. Actually, I *think* he 'borrowed' the code from somebody else, but let's keep it simple.

What I did was hack Lokesh's code and add an auto-sizing feature, if you will. My code auto-adjusts to whatever screen res you're running...

Anyway, the code you're talking about obviously doesn't contain my hack - why should it? So, on face value, it's no better than the original code - however, it is evidently smaller and more efficient, because it runs on top of a MooTools framework.

The thing is, I tried to download this plugin - which was stolen from Lokesh Dhakar by Christophe Beils - which was then "transformed" by Giuseppe Argento, and the version numbers were throwing me for a loop, so I gave up.

Lightbox version 2, begot Slimbox version 1.41, which begot Slimbox WP Plugin version 1.1

Is it just me... or are these versions going backwards?

Well, that does it! You've stumped the chimp...

I'll try to piece this together in the morning, and see if I can come up with my own improved, hacked, stolen, transformed, version!

Haha yea it's quite convoluted. Personally I only need the "lightbox" effect without the 140kb required for Prototype js - hence I went with slimbox. Of course if you have a customized version, either a) inject it into slimbox or b) stick with your current code base and forget about all these wacko version numbers lol

    Well, here's the thing...

I really don't care about making a better WP plugin - a better Lightbox is what I'm after!

    Here's my application: http://www.lenon.com/modules.php?name=coppermine

I already took care of the sizing problem, but if I can cut the cruft out of the code - all the better, you know?

Hmmm Slimbox doesn't have the MooTools framework included!

    http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox#download

I had to go download the WP one to get the Mootools js file!

How odd! When I downloaded from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugi...box-plugin.zip it appeared to have some version of mootools included such that the plugin would work. Not sure though.

At least you found version 1.4 of the plugin...

    EDIT

Once again, I was confused - that's Slimbox, not the Slimbox Plugin...

The changelog on the site above says:
    # v1.4 (2007-05-21), requires mootools >= 1.1.
    Hrm...

    I'm having a Deja Vu.

It seems like I wanted to use MooTools for something - maybe the Lightbox code - it wasn't installed on the SDX server I'm on - and I couldn't install it because I don't have root access. Or not!

Maybe a little 'black magic' will help...
