    gaming forum

    Hey guys and girls.

I have been thinking of starting up a gaming community forum / website for a while now and its something I have been working on a little.

I am looking for a second admin to help run the website. Must be competent with phpbb and be able to mod the forums when needs be. For example add a shoutbox in the future maybe and other mods.

I can help with the design of the main website in the near future but at the moment I just have a forum up.

The website/forum will have a downloads section, reviews section, other forums for movies and general chit chat etc. Perhaps a premium section, and much more.

Let me know if any of you are interested.

    Thanks,

P.S Here is what I have so far: http://hggamerz.info

Is anyone going to deal with the spammers?
    Good luck

I'm beginning to suspect that they might not be unwelcome...

Didn't we post once about folks who were paid to post on forums; X number of identities will create N number of posts for a certain price... to help get your forum up and (re)running?

WTH was the name of that service... I'm sure there's more than one. It was something like "forum starter" or something.
    Good luck

Ron I just replied to the other thread you posted in. If you can point me to the spam Ill get it taken care of as soon as possible. As I mentioned in the other thread, I see the bumping of old threads but don't see any spam.

I remembered the name, I thought, was forumlauncher .com but that looks like some weitd hybrid thing going on now.

The following isn't the one that I recall... but it is a similar concept. I thought the one I had seen was about 2,000 posts for $20 or $50 or $200 or some such. Verrrrrry inexpensive.

Seems like that is what has been going on here. Real humans posting, digging up really old threads, posting nonsensically but somewhat related responses.

Or it could be just a way of slipping in posts that will be modified later to have spammy links in sigs. I've seen that before, too.
    Good luck

Ross, we cross posted, but does that answer your question?
    Good luck

    Hi Ron,
No it doesn't really answer my question. What spam were you referring to earlier? I don't see any advertisements. If there's ads being spammed we'll get it taken care of.
    Thanks.

If you guys aren't paying a posting service, I think that they are spam stubs designed to be re-injected with the spam later.

We're talking about the same thing in both threads now. LOL
    Good luck

No, we aren't paying a posting service. Thanks for bringing up the situation, they have been taken care of. It appears those users definitely had some strange posting habits.

As Ron said, they were showing all the hallmarks of spammers. Digging up old threads; posting just enough words to have the forum software allow the post to be made. Adding no actual content.

They're sleepers. The accounts can sit there for months, until suddenly they're edited to include the actual spam.

I note with some surprise that I can't edit my own posts here. I suspect it's a hangover from the time when I was being banned on a weekly basis.

No, that was done a few years ago to prevent members from erasing-by-editing all of their old posts to something like "nevermind".
    Good luck

That other poster with a similar name to mine used to be able to edit his own posts.

Ross, have a look at this old thread. We're seeing exactly the same thing again.
