    Unhappy Cressida is down

I moved to JaguarPC to avoid frequent down times. But that's exactly what has been happening to me here so far.

Could somebody please check what's up with cressida?

I've also had a not very satisfying episode with support

It's back up now. Let's see for how long.

    analyst,

The uptime for cressida is 85 days.

    cressida [~]# uptime
    06:58:08 up 85 days, 7:06

Please make sure you open a support ticket if you notice any frequent problems with the webserver or any other service or your websites on cressida.

I do create a ticket but yesterday even your monitors showed cressida was down for a few minutes. I don't know how you collect your statistics but all of the protocols except 2 were down. So I would say the uptime is 85 minutes instead of 85 days. Thanks.

Uptime on the server is one thing. Uptime on services running on the server are another; FTP, HTTP (Apache), DNS (BIND), SQL, SSH, and more.

A server can still be up and running yet a web site not accessible, such as SQL or HTTP being down.

Many things can make a service fail. On shared servers hereanalyst they are monitoring each service for failure. When it does happen the cause is attempted to be found (not always easy).

If we only had static html pages on our servers I would be bold to say we would hardly ever see downtime! But with scripts (PHP etc) this so called great "Web 2.0" we have busted services more frequently.

    I am no fan of Web 2.0. I like a K.I.S.S. philosophy!

You are making this complaint while posting on a message board using the "web 2.0" concept?

The thing I hate most about web 2.0 is the fact that people call it web 2.0.

True sort of, and what do you call it? What I meant was sites like ESPN with a gazillion things loading that I do not even want to see.

That is my concept of Web 2.0 not a BBS that runs smooth and loads fine and works well with its db.

I call it various things depending on the implementation. Javascript, php, a message board, a database. Web 2.0 is nothing more than a marketing term. It is based on technologies that have been around for ages, there is nothing new about it.

Maybe what I meant was I do not like the term nor the abusive use of the technologies that have been around for ages!
