I am quite impressed by the speed..
Seems like this was the best choise after all. I nerly went for one of those 500GB webspace and 17TB transfer for 5$ hosts.

Soon im going to build up my webpage
But the bad part was that the firewall at work has blocked the Cpanel port

You made a good choice. Those companies that offer the world rarely deliver on their promises. Anyone that offers that much space is very obviously overselling space big time--think about it: 500Gb hard drives are pretty common these days, but say that average shared hosting server holds 200 clients. No shared server is going to have 100,000 Gb (200,000 Gb if they are mirroring data) of storage on it. The cost to do so would be a lot more than the $1000/month that the host is taking in from those 200 clients. Instead hosts figure that, on average, most clients are only going to use a few gigs of space, so they pack as many users on each box as possible, hoping none of them have a site that suddenly grows exponentially.

There's nothing wrong with overselling and everybody does it (even JPC, though on a much smaller scale), but it is a matter of how much overselling is done. The hosts with the lowest cost-to-storage space and cost-to-bandwidth ratios are usually the worst offenders, meaning that there are more sites on the server which in turn means the server will likely have to handle more requests and will therefore be slower in serving your site.

The other thing to look at is support. The cost of maintaining a quality support staff is much more expensive than a couple of hard drives. One of the big things that has kept me hosting with JPC for...I don't know...seven years now is the support. The staff here keeps the servers well maintained so that there are rarely problems and, when the occasional problem does arise, they are usually quick to fix it. I can't say the same for other hosts I've used that let servers stay down for days with no mention of why (despite repeated requests via tickets) or that responded that "FTP isn't a required service," that they had no estimate of when it would be fixed, and to use the one-at-a-time file upload feature in the control panel to maintain my site.

All-in-all, I think you made a good choice. Welcome to JPC and we look forward to seeing you around.

    Hrm...

I'm really starting to worry about SDX getting too popular - been sort of a sleeper until recently - best deal on JagPC!

Maybe I should start pushing VPS...

If I can play Devil's Advocate...

For the most part, storage and bandwidth don't mean jack these days! So, I DO believe such 'deals' exist.

    The thing is...

Unless you're streaming video/audio, or have a huge photo gallery, you'll never need that much storage and bandwidth!

Au contraire... what most ppl need is CPU cycles and memory... which are STILL at a premium!

Any 'normal' site that requires that much storage and bandwidth will l-o-n-g exceed CPU/memory limitations - and, well before that storage and bandwidth can be used - so, it a sucker's game, of sorts, unless you simply plan to serve video/audio, e.g. run a YouTube-type site, or serve pics.

Anyway, IMHO, SDX is 'THE' sweet spot for most 'web masters'!

I'm surprised more places don't offer it, but then again, that's one of the things that makes JagPC unique.

I just hope ppl don't take (too much) advantage of it...
