The movie is called Fitna, which is the Arabic word ("fitna") for "ordeal", "discord", or "strife". In Islam the word is mostly used to describe things that are challenging the faith with rational arguments. Wilders thinks Islam is an ordeal for Western democracies, meaning a difficult or painful experience. He also says he hates Islam. He calls his film a call to shake off the creeping tyranny of Islamicization.

The movie will be made public this month. If television network will not broadcast the movie, Wilders says to make it public on a press conference this month.

The larger question(s) - and the reason I posted here is...

Does a web host have the right to suspend a web site for content that does NOT exist?

Sure, the inclusion of the clause "otherwise objectionable material" appears to give NetSol the right to block sites because of any imaginable objection. JagPC undoubtedly has the same 'right'...

However, how can hosts block a site for a perceived threat of objections from Islamic fundamentalists over content that hasn't even materialized?

They wanted to see the movie prior before it was loaded onto the site according to their statement. Geert Wilders has refused anybody to see the movie upfront and that why the broadcasting of the movie was also rejected by all the public and commercial tv networks in the Netherlands.

Network Solutions’ Statement Regarding the Suspension of Fitnathemovie.com

Herndon, VA — March 24, 2008 — Over the last month, Network Solutions received a number of complaints regarding the website FITNATHEMOVIE.COM. At the same time, our hosting customer for this site also made several public comments regarding their plans for the use of this site. In response to the complaints and the customer’s public comments, Network Solutions has made repeated requests to discuss the matter with our customer. We have also requested to review the planned content prior to it being loaded onto the site to determine whether the content violates Network Solutions’ Acceptable Use Policy. We are still waiting to hear from our customer. In the interim, we have temporarily suspended the site.

During this suspension, the customer has full access to the site. If the customer provides Network Solutions with the content and it is determined that the content does not violate the Acceptable Use Policy, then the customer will be permitted to post the content. However, if it does violate our policy, then the customer is free to post the content using another number of other avenues, but not with Network Solutions.

Network Solutions is by no means taking any action to limit freedom of speech or to preemptively censor content. Our company also does not proactively police the content of our customers’ sites. If a complaint is received, however, we do conduct a review to determine whether the site’s content violates our company’s Acceptable Use Policy.

As for Netsol, screw them. I didn't like some of their business practices before but now I got 0 respect. How many sites do you think they host that contain material that is anti-Christian or some other religion.

I think they didn't want the negative publicity. They want to stay out of it. I was a bit surprised by it though. I dont get why the dutch guy doesn't get hosting in Netherlands.

Even though I think the movie is probably total bull**** meant to cash in on fears of a naive public I don't see how in the world network solutions could possibly ban a site for content that hasn't yet been published. Absolutely insane.
