sigh, software, cpanel, hosting turning point?

Cpanel just sent a release that they are raising prices as well on all existing vps licenses not just new ones we add. Between this, the sluggsih us market, increased colo costs, power rate increases, the hosting industry is undoubtedly going to see changes. A few of the big boys of hosting raised rates the other month as we discussed in the power thread. The trickle down effect is in place for all providers now and unfortunately due to our size we, like other med/large hosts, will feel it more than some.

In short, expect a cpanel cost change now and probably hosting plan cost changes or sublte addon changes. Hosts will now have to find ways to absorb these costs without losing clients, who in large part, base their decisions on costs.

How in the hell can they go back and raise the prices on existing licenses. Is that even legal? I'm pretty sure that if microsoft came to me and said you need to pay us more money for an install you did 3 years ago I would laugh in their face.

I don't know but I can take a guess that they aren't selling perpetual licenses like M$, they sell 1 year licenses.

Good luck Greg. The mettle of management is tested not during good, but during challenging times.
    Good luck

You dont pay monthly for MS products, that alone is nuts. We have been paying tens of thousands per month , for years. We can never pay off this software and still have to eat a hike on top of that?

Wow that's pretty brutal. I can't believe they'd raise prices with the US (and even surrounding areas) economy the way it is.

Any idea how much you'll have to bump prices?

They are already losing a lot of market share as it stands. This change will undoubtedly worsen that for them.
