Question Cpanel access - new feature?

I'm behind a corporate firewall here at the office and port 2082 is blocked which limits my CPanel access. Just today I noticed that the first screen that pops up asks if I'm behind a firewall blocking the required port. Choosing Yes takes me to http://cpanel.mydomain.com. That subdomain doesn't resolve to anything however. Is there anything I can do on my end to get that working?

I haven't seen a new thread on this in years so while I'm on the topic, what's the latest on getting around the ol' corporate firewalls? Most web-based proxies don't seem to get past the sign-on. The-Cloak seems to be an exception but you can only use it once every 6 hours unless you cough up some dough. Any suggestions?

Doubt you can get that working, but support probably can..

You can try that https port first of course, but I doubt it will work.

No dice. That port is also blocked.

/cpanel immediately resolves to :2082. Same problem.

I might give them a ping. I was just curious if the feature works for anyone out there. Perhaps its a new thing and still in development?

Its a new feature in cPanel 11 called Proxy Domains. The reason behind this is to allow access to cPanel, WHM and webmail behind any firewall that blocks access to the respective ports. If proxy subdomains are enabled then you should be able to access cPanel, WHM and webmail as:

    cPanel: http://cpanel.yourdomain.com
    WHM: http://whm.yourdomain.com
    Webmail: http://webmail.yourdomain.com

Its redirection is managed internally by cPanel. It requires Apache to be recently compiled so that cPanel/WHM/Webmail/Webdisk Proxy subdomains VirtualHost should be configured. There is an option in WHM > Tweak Settings to enable it by default on all accounts and it can manually be enabled on any domain using /scripts/proxydomains script.

Add to that also, if you Domain uses a 3rd party DNS like I do, you will need to add the cpanel subdomain as an a record, unless you have a wildcard set up for your domain name

Cool.... any chance this can run using SSL???
I tried it on my own and-- no luck.
Also there's an icon and link in WHM's horizontal menu bar for a secure link, but it goes to the same URL I tried and-- no luck also.
    Good luck

Ah, so it is a new feature! Thanks for the tips. I'll give this a try.

Indeed: can this be made to work over SSL?

At this time Proxy domains cannot work over SSL because the purpose of the proxy domains is to get around firewalls that do not allow access to ports 2082, 2083 , 2095, 2096, 2086, 2087 and 2077, therefore pointing them to port 80.

The proxy is just there for fire walled situations where people can't get to those ports (208* and the such) so it reroutes through port 80.

    Pity.

I understand the purpose, but 2083, which I use, is for an SSL connection, so I was hoping it would reroute to the standard SSL port 443, like 2082 (http) goes to the standard http port 80.
