    2009 is Starting Out Great

The city slickers wont understand this, but my closest neighbor is over 1/4 mile away.

DSL starting becoming available in my area a little over a year ago, but I could not get DSL because I was to far off the hub.

The phone company has updated the service, and today I was hooked up to DSL.

What a difference 500K makes vs the 20K that I have lived with all these years.

20k..... After having a about 16000/2000 connection for many years now I believe i would have to shoot myself if had to surf with that. Matter of fact I'd have to shoot myself with 56k, how come you couldn't get that? Poor phone lines?

Personally I wish they would offer a about a 2000/500 plan at a very reduced rate because that would be enough for me. I don't p2p or have any "HD" movie subscriptions and really massive transfers are rare.

There is a world of difference. I'm using the new them which wasn't to bad even on dial up. The pages are loading instantly now.

In addition to the speed, and never getting disconnected, , DSL is saving me money. I've gotten rid of one phone line, and may get rid of another one.

That's good, I remember the old days having multiple phone lines, then you get people calling your internet line that are looking for the previous owners of that phone number, grr I cant believe we made it this far with what we had to work with back then

    Congrats Connie.

Still no cable or dsl for me here in my neck of the woods. Thank goodness for the cell tower out my back window. Good Verizon wireless signal (bad $60 a month fee though)!

I was prematurely in hog heaven when I seen NY Telephone rolling out a Fiber Optic line in front of my house last year - till my son came back in and said "dad - he said it is not FIOS" - just a private line for a "smokeshop" on an Indian reservation down the road from me.

    Still waiting...

Congrats on the high speed internet! I got my first cable connection around 2000, I haven't been able to look back since and I can't imagine being on 56k for that long of a time.

You guys that don't have dsl or cable might want to check out satellite internet:

    http://www.dishnetwork.com/internet/default.aspx

never used it and it seems kind of expensive for the speed it does provide but I see commercials for it all the time on my TV since I get it from Dish.
