Kinda quiet , isnt it ? Here, lets share one of the many fwds I get a day :

ONE.. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, 'I love you ,' mean it.

FIVE. When you say, 'I'm sorry,' look the person in the eye

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE.. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

TEN.. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN. Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, 'Why do you want to know?'

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN. Say 'bless you' when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't lose the lesson !

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship...

NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY... Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

    TWENTY-ONE. Spend some time alone.

Well the spammers are keeping the forum busy... LOL.

On that note phpBB 3.0.6 will have a captcha plug in system allowing forum admins to use a variety of methods.

    Should be released shortly.

That software is still being developed?

    Hmm, maybe someday I'll upgrade.
    Good luck

    Fascinating.

How about the promise to keep both the 2.0 and 3.0 lines alive and in development simultaneously?

(Of course I laughed in their faces when they said that, but they insisted...)
    Good luck

Ducky. Will acidwhatever also port all the custom mods I wrote into the phpBB code and the custom code I wrote against the database, and the bridges to other programs that utilize phpBB's authentication for me too?

    Just wondering.
    Good luck

That's something I would like to see myself and it doesn't necessarily have to use phpBB authentication. As in if phpBB, wiki, etc all got together and had uniform single sign on that could be used with any application. I know there is bridges out their but most are clumsy at best. The one I'm using for wiki works but you have two "profiles" which is confusing to the user.

Ya well, it seems to be working pretty well on my site

There are a number of "open id" kind of products out there, like live journal and others -- I haven't looked at them because I am using phpBB's authentication for (almost) everything.

But back to the complaint at hand, phpBB2 is at version 2.0.23 -- they had 23 security patches and 0 feature enhancements after bringing the product "to market" a couple of years late, then promising a features release for many years , telling us that mods would be supported going forward, not letting us know that the new version was going to be a total rewrite until 6 months before Olympus was (scheduled to be) released (about 5 years after 2.0, if I recall correctly), and then promised to maintain 2 code lines going forward so nobody would be forced to upgrade.

Uhhh huh. Thanks acidreflux! the $150 bux for vB would have been a lot cheaper than the coder I'm eventually going to have to hire to port me over to something else. Any takers?

I'm too old for this. This isn't a hobby for me, and reworking applications just to maintain functionality just for the heck of it isn't fun anymore. I just wanted something that worked and had a future longer than a single release.
    Good luck

I have a wiki bridge installed but it's pretty basic, only thing it really allows for is the same username and password. It's not single sign on nor is anything else integrated like the profile... You could have one email for the the wiki and another for phpbb.

Each new release usually has some features added. The one coming up is being dubbed a feature release as most of the changes are related to new features.

You do realize there is converter included with package? You upload phpbb3 to different folder than phpbb2. Install phpbb3 then run the converter. Pretty straight forward unless you have modded the core tables/fields. It creates new tables for phpbb3 so when the converter is done you'll have two functioning but seperate forums. The only mods supported during conversion is the Attachment mod and Birthday mod. Assuming the installation goes smoothly and you're done testing rename the phpbb2 folder something else, go into the ACP in phpbb3 and change the script path then rename the phpbb3 folder to what your phpbb2 folder was.
