Hold on, Beelzebub... I never said I loved Unity. LoL!

I'm just working inside the system -- that's all.

I can make whatever DE look however I wish. I have the cure.

I don't depend on canned software, like some ppl...

Nobody does my thinking for me. I roll my own, baby!

Linux Mint has to be my Fav Distro I have ever used. I cant really place why, it just seems to fit how I work.

Here is what I have in my Home Right now

    Office:
    Toshiba Windows 7 Laptop
I use this for Alot of my Graphics Work, and for Accounting, Only has Adobe Suite and Quickbooks on it
    Linux Mint 10 Desktop
Core 2 Quad based, with Dual Head Video, 22in and 25in Monitors (the 22in is connected via KVM to the Laptop)
This is my Main PC, Development, Testing, General Use (posting here, reddit, etc),
    Living Room
Dual Core Atom Based Linux Mint 11 running XBMC to my 50in LG Plasma
Plays HD Movies Great..... over WiFi G
    Bed Room
Running Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from Mythbuntu 10.04 so it does not have all that Crap Ubuntu Pushed on everyone that VinDSL loves...) Core 2 Duo, up to 8 TB of Storage. This is my main Media Center PC, Runs XBMC and a few other background apps. Attached to my 42in LCD

Used to have more, but I have downsized on Physical Hardware..... Use VM's alot now...

I love Linux and aside from the few commercial applications that have no good alternatives (Adobe and Quick books) I have not looked back to windows, I probably use my Windows PC about 10 Hours a week. (unless I get a new site to design then it is more, but most of my work is programming so.,...)

As to Windows XP, Come on people that thing is over a decade old.... Get over it and Move on, XP IS DEAD.

As to Linux vs Windows. As with anything it depends on your needs, for 90% of the people out there They will go GREAT on linux, I am slowly tring to convert my Family away from windows because windows at the end of the day sucks, if it was not for the commercial software vendor continuing the monopoly cycle windows would die, if the Major Vendors had a Linux Verzion of their apps I do feel the Windows Market Share could be greatly reduced, esp if the Game Vendors took a more active Role in Linux Development. The only thing I know for sure is that NO ONE should own any Apple Products.....

If you have a Family that just uses their PC for Browsing and email, Linux is a WONDERFUL option, if you need an office suite, Open Office works, or you can install MS Office using Wine (I have a guide on installing office 2007 on Linux Mint 10) So using Linux as the main family PC should be explored, but it all comes down to your needs and what software you want, for most people they will have a much better experience with Linux simply because I believe it is EASIER to use than windows, and certainly the software management of modern Linux Desktop Distro's are far easier to use than windows. There is so many missed opportunities for PC Users and Software Vendors alike in the Linux world that is sad that Totalitarian companies like M$ and Apple continue to thrive.

This is great information, Thanks so much!

A novel approach to life. Even though XP meets all of my needs for the computer on which it is installed (remembering that I run Linux on others), I should get rid of it just because it is old?

    Bizarre.

HUH? You will have no problems installing software made for linux,

Now you will, for obvious reason, have problems installing windows software on a linux pc, but that is not Linux's fault.

I have been using Linux as my primary desktop for a few years now, and have zero problems

Linux is NOT just for "servers"

    OMG!!! We agree, again!

That is... what?... 4 times in 10 years? Hahahaha!

Linux is just a kernel -- that's all. If ppl realized how many things run on Linux kernels, they would be shocked! Or not...

I've tried 100s of Linux distros.

What do I use on my "home computer"? Ubuntu.

What do "they" use on my web server? CentOS.

What do I use on my portables? Mint (an Ubuntu fork)... soon to be switched to Peppermint OS (a Lubuntu fork).

What do I use on my doorstop computers? Puppy Linux.

Actually, the only thing I use Windows for is my proxy server. Windows 98SE. Really! LoL!

Truthfully, the only Winders software that I miss is Winamp. I never have found a Linux music player that compares to Winamp. Everything else is superior.

Anyway, it's good to see that you and I agree on something. Maybe there's hope for you, yet, TA!

Let's see...I'm sitting at a Mac OS X machine right now (which is BSD--another Unix derivative--under the hood) which is currently running three Windows virtual machines (two XP on different domains and one Win 7), a Ubuntu linux VM with Gnome desktop, a couple of CentOS Linux VM dev "servers." The Windows VMs are only for testing and running proprietary software that I can't get around using. Pretty much everything else I do is running on some *nix variant. (and yes, I have that many VMs running and my Mac Pro doesn't skip a beat.)

On yeah--let's not forget the phone and tablet that are both sitting on my desk. Android is Linux, too.

Welcome back Jason. You have got a powerhouse there running those VMs under Mac. What are the specs of your Mac Pro?
