    Anti Virus & Anti Spyware

    Hey guys,

Just curious to know what antivirus and antispyware protection you guys use? What is your favorite and why?

Right now, I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials only on this PC and my wife is using a conbination of Spybot and ESET Smart Security 5.

We like ESET coz its lightweight, fast and doesn't hog resources.

I used to be a big fan of Trend Micro, but got really annoyed at their lack of support and it was too complicated.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    I know what you mean.

But do you think Microsoft is better with support?
Or that a combination of Spybot and ESET Smart Security 5 is less complicated?
    Good luck

Ok, you got me on the Microsoft front, but the reason I installed that was purely because I had nother else available to me that was farily lightweight and simple at the time.

Yes, I do believe that the conbination of Spybox and ESET is definetly a lot more simple than Trend Micro and many other products also. They are lightweidhgt, easyt o use, powerful, fast and good at what they are designed to do.

I used to like AVG, but that got clunky and slugish aswell.

At the Risk of Sounding like Vin

Virus? What is a Virus? Ohh is that what that winblows operating system has????

    lol

Ok Anyway, The Best Anti-Virus's Change every year, and believe it or not, Symantic has made some great improvments to the Norton 360 product, I still will not use them because they are too spammy with their marketing. ESET or Kapersky are my paid Anti-Virius of Choice.

for Free Stuff, it is either Aviria, or AVG,

Maleware/Spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Maleware Bytes are my tools of choice.

I don't use anything -- no AV software, no anti-spyware non-sense , no firewall, no nothing.

Then, again, this PC isn't infected with winders... LoL!

Linux/FreeBSD firewalls get ClamAV. Win32/64's get NortonAV (or AVG) and Malwarebytes.

If I had to switch, I might try Kaspersky. They have good detect/purge tools and decent support. McAfee became slow, bloatware to the point of annoyance. Bitdefender is a damn scourge that cannot be purged and, when operational, its definition auto-update was a pain to get through my firewalls. Of the many I've tried, the only one I'd say I hated was Bitdefender.

My multi-node network has never been infected (>13yrs). So I guess it'll get infected tomorrow.

Anti-Virus Plus from CA Technologies (formerly Computer Associates). Been using it for more years than I can remember.

I have been using Microsoft Security essentials and superantispyware = Both with no problems, and this combination has been good with a lot of clients.

I used to use Avira Antivir Premium on my desktop, but the latest update completely ruined it for me. Kept getting graphical glitches whenever it would update which was annoying. I swapped it to Kaspersky.

On my netbook, i used to use Avira as well... same problem... so i swapped to MSE, which caused the performance to drop massively, so i swapped again to Panda Cloud Antivirus. Works just fine.

I'd use Linux on my desktop, but i like Media Center, OneNote and playing games. Win7 on my netbook runs nicely, and i need OneNote as well, so it stays.

Years ago I used Kaspersky, but I stopped once I learned that Kaspersky changes the file structure of every file. This is how it tracks file changes. Problem is, it is permanent, so even if you remove Kaspersky, the structure changes are still there. There was many problems with it, so I am not sure if they still do that or not.
