[Scorpion] Stay, Move to Another or Leave Altogether?

    Hi All . . .

After today's nonsense with Scorpion and Aletia's offer to move accounts off Scorpion to another server by request . . . I have to admit I don't really know now to feel about this situation at all.

Questions, questions . . . what to do?

Stay at Aletia and on Scorpion, just wait it out?

Stay at Aletia and request the server move?

Simply leave altogether and let bygones be bygones?

With all the talk in the "Scorpion Down?" thread http://aletiaforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3680

I think what bothers me the most is the "false contact information". I'm not sure about anyone else, but I'm very uncomfortable with the idea of a company who's got my credit card # not being as "honest" as presented. This day has really changed the way I think regarding this hosting company.

I'm interested in what others (especially those on Scorpion who have been facing the same problems here that I have) are thinking . . .

Thanks in advance, your reply is appreciated.

From my understanding of Credit Card processing companies, I would assume that the one Aletia uses, Paysystems I believe, stores the credit card information on their server and does the billing on behalf of Aletia. You can tell from the emails, all invoices, although sent from noc@aletia.com are CC'ed to noc@aletia.com, showing that Paysystems is probably just sending an email masking the from address as Aletia's, so I doubt they have all our Credit Cards, which is a good thing.

Though it still worries that a company I'm paying a service for cannot produce valid contact addresses. I hope it is a mistake, I really do.

I've only been here a month, and I'm contemplating my stay. I'm looking around for another host but haven't made a decision to stay or not. I'm giving them a last chance. If I see stupidness happening again, like what we at Kiwi experienced last week, I will move immediately. Doubt this will help you decide, just make sure if you decide to move, you do intensive research. If I had read some of the posts on these boards before I signed up, I probably won't be here today.

I think we all understand that technical problems happen. It is the delay and lack of attention to problems that concerns me.

Has Aletia tried to explain why service is slow or non-existant? Not to my knowledge. What was it today 10 hours before there was acknowledgement of a problem on Scorpion, then another 4 hours or so to solve that problem.

I'm beginning to think the problem is more than an ineffective help system.

    Think I'll Just Stay Put . . .

I've been thinking on this heavily, and I've decided to stay with Aletia and see what happens. :weyes:

Now that is a "positive" attitude, Stace!

I am sure it is rough, for those that are on the FEW problem servers Aletia has.

P.S. Say it aint so about frying up bacon in the nude!

My site is on scorpion, for the time being I'll stick around. With the deal they offer I can understand how growth can just about swamp them. They were just excellent, so I'll give it a while to come back up to that standard.

I also haven't had any big problems (except yesterdays downtime), I wouldn't stick around if the slow customer service was the norm, I not quite ready to call it the norm yet:-)

After this mail fiasco, I just purchased webhosting at another site. However, I'll leave a domain here for this month, to see if things improve. If things get better, I might stay, if not, I'll cancel my service with Aletia.

Compared to other hosts I've suffered under (eg HostRocket) I can give Aletia at least three stars out of five because as far as I know I haven't had any problems with them. I'm on scorpion and I've been a customer for 6 months. I came here because friends recommended them. Those friends are now apologising for having made that recommendation. :(

I'm going to stick with them simply because I don't know of anywhere else offering what they offer, for the price (the space, the domain parking, the subdomains etc) -- also because I'm hosting a couple of people and I would really hate to have to tell them they needed to reupload everything because I was switching hosts.

Perhaps if I'd been using my account more actively I would have experienced problems too. :|

You know we're really ramping things up when we start giving machines ridiculous names. Hang tight.

    Dana,

That's great news! As you all at Aletia know... the number of people (customers) that still believe in you all, are way more than not!

Continue winning the battles, and you eventually win the war.

You guys have certainly been tested over the last couple of weeks. And this week has been far worse... Support has been berated with zings, digs, and nearing slanderous comments and actions.

Without a running count on number of tickets submitted, the only one I had a problem with was a self-inflicted situation... whereby I stepped on a toe or two. Sorry Ron! All others have been answered above and beyond my request.

"Happy to be an Aletia Customer!"

    -Steve

Look forward to staying around awhile!
