    Enuff Already!!!

Come on guys, give Aletia a break. I signed up with them in June of 2001 and I was quite impressed not only with the features they offered but with the quick response to support for the few times I needed it.

Both Mark and Dana were very courteous and helpful in the few times we communicated so kudos to them. Ron seems to have taken charge of support in the past few months and it seems to me that he has his work cut out for him catching up on the open tickets and handling day to day server administration.

All the negative talk in the forums is not only distracting for potential customers, it's unprofessional at best. Instead of complaining that nothing is being done, why not ask what you can do to help fix it!

I know there are currently many problems and frustration is running high, but I do believe that Aletia truly wants to resolve them and restore the level of service that brought us here in the first place.

If you are thinking of hosting with Aletia would I recommend them? It depends on what type of site you have. I just signed a corporate client up with Verio simply because I don't want the headaches associated with the server being down or email being unaccessable at 3 in the morning! Yes, I did give Aletia serious consideration but the growing pains they are currently dealing with have to be resolved first.

Now if you are going to host a personal or small business site (maybe even a gamer site ) where 5 nine uptime isn't critical, I would definitely recommend Aletia.

I for one, am not going to call my lawyer, repeatedly post how bad the service is or cancel my account. I am going to stick out the rocky times with Aletia and be patient. There are plenty of low cost web hosts out there but I believe that Aletia is going to get through this and rise to the next level of service and support (that, and I was always told good things come to those who wait ).

Sorry about the lenghty post but I've lurked too long to keep my mouth shut anymore.

I'm going to kind of agree and disagree. First, I don't really think that it is our responsibility to get stuff done. We pay Aletia and they should provide the service. It's like a restaurant. If I go and order and pay for fries, I shouldn't have the responsibility to go cook them. Now, contradictory to what I just said, I emailed Aletia and offered to help in anyway, but they made the smart decision not to take it.

Second, I do have to say that since I come to this board multiple times a day it is very depressing to hear people complain. There is just cause I guess (I haven't had any problems myself) but it really does get tiring. You do have to realize that you are paying only $10 a month. That doesn't excuse Aletia from responsibility for uptime and server loads, but you have to realize that they can't have tons of support staff or a low client:server ratio when you're only paying that small sum.

That's been better said by several people already, but if we could strive to create a more positive forum (Slim Shady and timechange in the chit chat: keep it up!). Let's have a bit more fun.

Do we add music to it and take it to Broadway?

Couldn't be any worse than the Planet of the Apes musical as shown on The Simpsons!

And I just knew you'd be here, timechange, when I went back to the home page after posting here and saw you were logged in. Always riding my coattails...

Well, to be fair, there's informational and there's complaining. I am all for people trying to confirm that they're not alone with a problem -- especially when Aletia support was bogged down.

But I do agree that it's difficult with the mass of surrounding editoralisms. I chalk a lot of it up to crowd theory: people feed off of the surrounding emotions and amplify them. People are people, and this is the Internet -- things spread like wildfire (or flames ).

Timechange is going to say it, I just know it, so I'll label myself: "devil's advocate." It takes all kinds in a community. I hope that, having weathered all this, we'll now be able to also have some fun, too!

Well said, jk, and I won't add anything because it was all so nicely put and if I added anything else I'd be spamming shamelessly, much like Spam Shady

Did everybody see the movie "Kelly's Heroes"? One of the characters was this American tank commander who had this kind of hip and cool saying, "Enuff with the negative vibes, baby!" That was my thinking when I started this. Don't dwell on the past, let's look to the future!

And Dogma, I don't mean we should be recompiling code and swapping drives for Aletia, I just simply mean that we should check for things like runaway scripts and flat file boards that are a common source of probs....

I know most of you guys are pretty positive about the whole thing but I flipped out when I saw a post about getting a lawyer and suing Aletia. Ha, for 10 bucks a month, yeah right!

I'll throw my hat in the ring here. I agree that a lot of the conversation lately has been negative and full of complaints. I think people also need to wait a few minutes if they notice their server is down. During that time, try to ping it, traceroute it, and go to a third-party website that can traceroute it or a place like Anonymizer.com that can access your site and display it to you from a different location. If you get successful results through any of those methods, you know the server isn't down and it's simply a problem on your (or your ISP's) end. I'm sick and tired of seeing posts saying "my server is down!" only to have a reply from the original poster five minutes later saying "it's back up!" It was likely never down...just simply inaccessible to you temporarily. Anyway, that's my vent.

hahaha that would be funny if it was a story, that fact that it is fact makes it hysterical!

I agree. I'm going to stick it through. If hostrocket can do it, so can aletia. And if the customers were more supportive and less whiny, it'd be better for all of us, mentally that is.

Things are getting done, perhaps slowly, but it's happening.

Maybe if Aletia was more supportive, the customers would be less whiny. That would be even better.

It's true that it escalated a lot before some action was made and some appearance was also made in the forums (by Dana mostly). But what I enjoy mostly here is that Aletia stuff are very helpful and supportive and don't have the attitude of Hostrocket's.

    Thanks all!

It's been a rough few weeks mostly due to server outages and ticket issues, but I think I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.

My ticket load is still high, though. There actually IS something that can be done by the forum moderators and readers, I think and that is the FAQ project. We really need this done.

And, I'll never have the attitude of HostRocket!
