    Tough downtime for Unisys.

As a Unisys Program Manger in another life I found this article interesting. Unisys is starting to market their servers to users converting from Unix to Windows 2000.

The web site used to promote the campaign was run on FreeBSD with Apache. So, after the headlines "Anti-Unix campaign relies on its foe" the site switched to Windows 2000:

Netcraft reported the site switched to Windows 2000 on Arpil 2. On April 2 the site http://www.wehavethewayout.com/ went down and 404 errors appeared when trying to access the site. It was still down April 3.

Now, that had to be someone's big headache.

Yeah, this was hilarious. I saw an article on it yesterday or the day before, and checked the site. It only showed "this site does not have a page configured fot it."

Of course, there's people's short-term memory for marketing gaffes (aside form New Coke). Add to that the fact that people see any anti-MS criticism as coming from "those semi-religious Mac/Linux guys." As a result, I don't expect that this will really affect Microsoft's message... nor do I expect that a lot of people will heed their call to jump out a window (or into Windows?) who weren't already on that path.

What particularly surprised me was the site was apparently on a 3rd party host using the software being attacked.

    Ewwww.
