    netsol re: expired domain names

These are the two emails I received from them, in which I inquired about obtaining an expired domain name.

btw, Network Solutions is under Verisign now.

    Thank you for contacting VeriSign.

At this time, the domain you are interested in is in use
by another Registrant. However, you can be the first in
line to register this domain should the current Registrant
    choose not to renew!

    Here's how:

    Please go to: http://www.netsol.com

Type the domain that you would like to register, and click, "Back Order Now". Follow the simple online instructions, and your request can be fulfilled in the order it was received.

For more Frequently Asked Questions or more information regarding this unique service, click

    http://www.snapnames.com/

    to learn more.

Should you choose not to take advantage of services from SnapNames, you may alternatively:

    1. Contact the current registrant.

    2. Continue to check the availability of the domain name.

Some additional things you should be aware of concerning this matter:

    a) The expiration date that shows in WHOIS is not the date that a domain name becomes available to be registered by another party. There may be issues that are yet to be resolved between VeriSign, Inc./ Network Solutions and the registrant.

    b) It's possible the domain may be involved in a legal dispute.

    c) Please understand that for security reasons we cannot discuss any privileged domain information with third parties.

    d) If you make payment on the current registration, it will be renewed in the current registrant's name.

If this involves a trademark dispute please contact our Business Affairs Office at: resolution@netsol.com

But the company doesn't EXIST any longer! stupid people.

    Thank you for contacting VeriSign.

VeriSign, Inc., periodically deletes domain names that are up for deletion in bulk since bulk deletion better enables us to insure that only those domain names that are actually up for deletion are properly deleted (as compared to running a deletion process).

The dates on which these bulk deletions occur are arbitrarily selected by our engineering department based upon system loading and other technical factors. In order to protect against an overload of our systems, we do not disclose these deletion dates.

You may, therefore, either continue to check our site for the availability of the domain name and attempt to obtain it through the public registration process, contact http://www.snapnames.com to attempt to back-order this domain, or, in the alternative, contact the listed registrant directly and discuss the possibility of executing a registrant name change agreement.

To visit our WHOIS database to locate registrant information for a domain, please go to:

    http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

    Best regards,

I'm writing this one back to ask when was the last time they did a bulk release. Probably somewhere near, oh, January 1998

I had a domain name (heavysigh.com) through netsol I let expire in April 2001. It was registered again (to a porn company, no less!) in July 2001. . . so it's not *that* bad. . I guess.

But why would they release names when they could get people to pay to back-order them through snapnames?

Not saying it's right, just saying that's probably their thinking.

    Clio,

First of all, email #2 is standard BS, I received the same one last year when I inquired.

Second, bulk releases occur daily. Now, there seems to be no pattern set for domains that expired a while ago (months, years) which are being mysteriously held 'hostage'. Verisign owns GreatDomains.com, which basically auctions domains. Why release 1million domains that are deemed valuable, when they can potentially auction them at greater prices.

Of course this is against the regulations of ICANN, but that's another story.

the thing is tho, the one i want, the .net is available but i want the .com it expired in jan 2002 and was last updated august 2001. i tried contacting the internet consulting company located in the southeast but they're presumably dead.

if bulk releases occur everyday, i don't understand why mine still isn't avaiable. i'm not going to pay $69 for snapnames. i'd rather go buy 2 playstation 2 memory cards i'm just gonna wait. i can wait until summer. i'm bored like that LOL

Well you can always register the .net first and then wait for the .com so in case you lose it it will sweeten the pill

As for the Playstation games....what games are you currently eyeing?
