    >:O @ Aletia

I was told about a month ago that Aletia would not be able to host my website any longer (but that they would be HAPPY to provide me with my files), and this is after about a week and a half of almost no information as to when I would get my service back (my site was having it's IP blocked, and I couldnt access it).

Once they told me I wouldn't be able to be hosted by them, I went and found another host RIGHT AWAY, so that I could finally get back to work, and put my files back online. So, naturally, I requested my site's latest backups (as Aletia had closed down my CPanel). I got no reply. I asked the person who was on AIM, they said email laura... I got no reply. I resent it about a week later.. AGAIN, No reply! (See a pattern emerging?) Now, a couple days ago, I submitted a ticket, and PROMPTLY got a reply... simply "Ticket changed by Tech". No help, no nothing, just stating that SOMEONE saw it, and did nothing about it.

I still want my backups, and I dont know WHO to email, since I got no replies regarding this, so I am posting this here, trying to get some attention to this matter.

Lastly, this IS relevant to this forum, for, I think that Aletia should be prompt and couteous about handling prior customers. This is my message... Aletia, if you are going to tell me that you will help me get my files back, but then dont even reply to my emails about it... learn better business practices.

Quoted is the email I received from Ron about my account:

    Hi,

My manager has denied the request to re-establish your account. He said that we would be happy to help you move your files to another provider.

    Ron

Um, Excuse me? They "let me go" because they say my IP was generating traffic on non-standard ports, but they wouldnt tell me anything about it (what scripts, what port, etc), which could EASILY be found out (I'm not an idiot), and perhaps I could find out whats going on. I'm not even sure if I believe their explanation

    In addition...

While I *DO* understand suspending someones account due to irregular activity, I would try and find a real reason. As I said a moment ago, I was given no details as to the problems. I do know that NONE of my scripts (I checked every cgi-bin and searched for php's) are capable of opening up "non standard ports".. perhaps someone hacked my account?

I dont know, and I dont care. All I want is my files back. I am NOT bashing any of the tech, I just wish they would be more responsive.

Joseph, Joseph... such hostility, whats that all about?

How many times do you need to post about your unhappy experience with Aletia? Once is enough! Twice (on a different thread) is against forum rules.

Think of this, "what comes around... goes around!" so let that be your comfort. Running around trying to gouge Laura's eyes out and pull her hair wont do anything for you, except make you look ridiculous in the process.

This forum is not a customer/x-customer RANT ROOM, this is a self-help community for paying members of Aletia's services... keep up the ludicrious crap and you'll soon find yourself abonished from this forum, as well.

Most here would be a bit more empathetic, without the tones of your posting...

You stated that your postings are relevant to this forum, I dont buy it... this is between Aletia and you, period! Nobody in this forum has the power to give you your files back... it looks to me as if your site is running fine at your new host.

I do know this, if I suspected that a hacker was the reason I got ousted from my host... I would definately want to check into that for myself...

2+2 is not coming to 4 in this case

One little emoticon, and that signifys hostility? Did I not already explain how I have not gotten any news by emails? How else am I going to get my files back? I am handling this VERY well. I am NOT "trying to gouge Laura's eyes out". The other post in the other thread was actually there to state that they SHOULDNT be angry with her. I am not. I just want my files back and that is that.

Also, not like I need to tell you, I put a place holder page at the other host until I get my files back. Oh yes, and all the contents of the subdomains I had.. I dont have those. And you know, it doesnt matter. I believe I am entitled to my files back, whether or not I have some of them (I dont have all of the contents of scripts like forums, etc, on my computer, for they are dynamic) on my computer.

The rest of your post, I am not going to even justify with a response, as it, unlike my posts (with the exception of the >:O emoticon), was hostile, and unwarrented.

Well, context is in the eyes of the beholder, my friend! If you care to see rude and unwarrented behavior that can be managed, for this is not it, dude

If you would take the time to read the forum rules, you would realize you are STILL barking up the wrong tree for support. (Aletia does not maintain customer support in the forums) The link is in my signature if you dont know where they are.

Perhaps it is a conspiracy against ikonboard users! (just a thought) as I see on the multi-page placeholder,(teheee) that your forum is working fine... at your new host

BTW, even though you think of my post as rude, and unwarrented... I was merely trying to help

I do have one more suggestion in line of trying to get your files back. Send one of your favorite mods a PM, explaining your delimma to them... perhaps they can help you resolve it. Other than that, you really are just pissing in the wind here, on getting help in this forum (for this sort of request)

Since you dont like me I wont intrude on your sacred post anymore But I do wish you luck, seriously!

Anytime anyone has a complaint about Aletia here, everyone jumps on a bandwagon and !%@&*@! them out for having a complaint.

I think this person has every right to complain about their situation. The reason people put there complaints on here is because they aren't getting help anywhere else and they are in hopes that someone who can fix it will do something (and there are people here who do see them from time to time). Furthermore, another reason to complain here is so others thinking about using Aletia can see what they are up against.

Boards are so dam clicky it makes me ill. People have a right to complain when they don't get any service of any kind...regardless of how much they are paying.

I agree completely. But it's important to remember that there are people who see it as their own right to write opposing views.

The difficulty is that, being Aletia-owned forums, these are not the place to make a stand for totally free speech. There's obviously going to be some sort of regulation, and I think that Aletia's policies are very forgiving in that aspect. But there are the independent factors, such as pro-Aletia members, who will fill that gap.

I think that any "clique" that forms is in function of how much people feel that they have found a home. So it's understandable that there will be a strong reaction to negative comments posted in their own backyard. Some react diffferently than others, but everyone is looking to perpetuate the aspects that they find best about their virtual home.

I very much support these forums giving a balanced view of Aletia's services. But there will always be, on the balance, a larger number of negative comments -- and those, from a diverse group. Most people are likely to log in once or twice, post their problem, and leave. Any apparent clique is going to be the people who stick around for positive reasons, and so you end up seeing the same faces repeating positive comments. These are just natural social dynamics plus statistics at work.

My second biggest problem on the forums has been the propensity to see time and again overreactions for small causes ("my site's down!!!" ... five minutes ... "oh, never mind.") that may never have had anything to do with Aletia. This is wearying, and the responses that you see above is the result of people getting tired of it. It's not always justified, but it's just as much a "right" as the right to post complaints.

My "first biggest" problem has been a lack of balance. Aletia needs to post more announcements, and in more detail (without revealing sensitive or proprietary information) in a fashion that heads off a lot of the "mood swings" that I mention. There have been some positive movements -- notably in a focused, moderated "Downtime Issues" forum. But I would like to see a more active Aletia voice.

Remember that everything that goes on here is economically driven. The supporters in these forums have an economic motive to boost Aletia. People with problems have issues with losing money, in the form of down time or non-responses. And Aletia has the biggest one of all, in trying to provide a reasonable communications method for its customers while avoiding losing them or scaring off potential ones.

It's a tricky balance, and one that is made all the harder for the personal, emotional involvement that many have. It's important for everyone to remember that, but it need not limit the flow of speech in either direction.

tekygonnabe, sorry for jumping down your throat about it, your post just seemed to be attacking . A little background information, is that Chronosurf.com used to be the only domain hosted at aletia, CodeAllday, ithinksw, etc, all those were hosted other places. Now every one of them is hosted by a different host. Anyway, the forums that you are looking at.. well, the only forums on any of those sites that are up, are ones that werent hosted here :P So, I still dnt have my files... anyway...

SarahMo, why can't I put things together as well as you? Thats exactly what I'm saying

And, I'm not trying to say that aletia is terrible, I just have a very rare circumstance, and I just want it taken care of. I posted this here (and im saying this for the millionth time to MAYBE get some attention to this matter, since Emails and Tickets werent working. As a matter of fact, for someone who needs a good, cheap host, I would tell them to definately check out Aletia. Thats pretty much it, I just want my files back And, what Sarah said

Lastly, Rayn, sorry, I wasn't having a very good morning, and your post, rather than being funny at the moment (makes me laugh now :P), ticked me off... so, sorry

    JosephSpiros,

Thanks for that, I accept it! My appologies back to you!

I still offer my condolances for your troubles, and wish the matter to be resolved for you soon.

I am not blessed with the gift of getting my exact meaning across, like jkeller. But I try, and still make a concious effort to get better at this thing called "tact"

    anyhooo, good luck to you!
