I know that Clio. ..."I swear" CAREFUL CLIO!!Originally posted by Clio
EHG, I do not censor opinions, just profanity.
Lookout is right, she originally used the B word. I am sure it was not with the intention of violating the forum rules, but rather it just slipped. For that reason, I gave her a warning. Now, that profanity is explicitly forbidden in the forum rules, profanity will not be tolerated.
That's all I edited, I swear. I usually change the swear to some silly combinations of characters.
'I do not censor opinions, just profanity'.
I did not see the original content and therefore it would be inappropriate for me to state whether in this case you did or did not censor an opinion. After reading my dissertation below that is something that you will have to contemplate and reach the appropriate conclusion.
Is this word the infamous B word always profane regardless of how it is used, or is it like many others at least in my opinion, one that can become profane depending on it's usage??
In which case it's usage is usally reflecting the opinion of the user towards an animate or inanimate object.
I recognize the fact that although this is a public forum, it is not a publically owned forum. I believe it is the right of every forum owner - administrator to set whatever rules or code of conduct that they expect to be maintained on their boards.
Any individual that uses these forums, including myself have entered a de facto agreement to abide by the rules as established by the boards administrators.
I shall abide by the rules -
Oh no!!![]()
NOT THE INFAMOUS 'B' WORD???
I can only surmise that the word which has been assigned 'profanity status' is the word that Webster's New World Dictionary defines as:
n.
1 the female of the dog, wolf, fox, etc.
2 a) (Archaic) a lewd or promiscuous woman b) a malicious, bhad-tempered, or agressive woman
3 (Slang) anything especially unpleasant or difficult
4 (Slang) a complaint

I believe it is appropriate that I speak up for the female members of the Canidae family, who unlike the evolved duck do not have the dexterity necessary to manipulate a keyboard.
THE B*****'S DEFINITELY TAKE OFFENSE THAT A TERM USED TO DESCRIBE THEM IS OR CAN BE CONSIDERED PROFANE BY HUMANS!
They have also stated that they believe it fair and equitable that the words GIRL and LADY should also then be considered not only profane but relegated to that infamous category of 4 letter profane words!! What's fair is fair!!
There was some initial whelping and accusations by the B*****'s that Clio was a 'cat' person (actually the used the term LADY), and therefore was not being objective in categorizing this term as derogatory or profane. They have been informed that their behavior was based on presumptions and inappropriate!

The moral of this essay is:
IS A CUSS WORD ALWAYS A CUSS WORD?? or IS IT THE USAGE WHICH MAKES IT PROFANE??
If one were to believe that the latter is correct, then one would also have to concur that the usage is an expression of the authors opinion. Therefore the removal of a particular word from a post in my opinion is censoring the authors opinion of a person, place or thing. Having agreed at the beginning of this rather long essay that it is appropriate that a reasonable decorum be maintained in these forums I am not taking a position that the removal of this word was inappropriate. I am merely stating a belief that it was INDEED CENSORSHIP OF AN INDIVIDUALS OPINION.
If the infamous B word removed was other then that which refers to the female gender of our canine friends and instead refers to a child born out of wedlock, the above still remains moot, just a change in the group that might take exception by having a descriptive word defining a particular aspect of their existence being declared profane.
There are many who believe that using slang and profanity is a method of description utilized by a lazy person or one who's literacy is questionable and such language is utilized either out of lack of motivation or inability to find words that would not be considered profane. I belive that opinion is presumptive and often not valid.
When I use an expletive and refer to a person, place or thing with #$%^@#$&^% the connotation is unmistakable and whoever hears or reads that expression will know EXACTLY what my opinion of that particular person, situation or ? is! There are no appropriate words in the English language where the general connotation will be the same as when one uses a well chosen expletive!
HOWEVER....
Even if it requires biting my poor webbed knuckles till I draw blood - I shall be a good duckie and refrain from utilizing what the forum administrators consider inappropriate language in my posts.
BLAND - NOT COLORFUL - bah humbug! :weyes:
and just in case you have actually read this far???
I DETEST CENSORSHIP in all it's forms regardless of whatever excuse may be used insinuating a need to protect us from ourselves. ....Although I do not believe that maintaining the rules of the forum which should be read and understood by anyone utilizing these boards prior to posting would or should be considered censorship....
Therefore why did I write this???
CAUSE I'M A BORED NEUROTIC DUCK
QuACk !! :wavey:
