Before dealing with linux remotely, you might want to learn on a local machine first. You can easily dual-boot Windows and Linux on the same machine. A great linux book is Running Linux, published by O'Reilly.

Yes, O'Reilly's Running Linux seems to be the dominant book.

Dual booting is the way to go. To avoid any worries about hard drive space I added a 2nd hard drive and dual boot.

Now, you might start an interesting discussion by asking which distribution.

I haven't read a linux book from Wrox, but Wrox is definitely a good publisher for computer related books. Although O'Reilly's Running Linux is a good book, it is fairly outdated. Wrox books in general, seem to be more up to date.

But if clio's only concern is about running a webserver, it might be good to maybe get a book specific to apache or something.

And there's also a lot of HOW-TO docs on linux stuff. You can find 'em on http://www.linuxdoc.org

Another thing with linux is that different distributions have their own quirks, so it's good to get a book specific to the distribution in mind. If clio wants to learn stuff specific to Aletia's servers, ssh into the account and "cat /etc/redhat-release" to see which version of Red Hat linux it's running. They are running older versions, so it'll be easy to find the relevant books in bargain bins and such at a bookstore.
