Actually, before another nasty rumor about Microsoft emerges, let me nip this in the bud:
The SP1 for XP is only designed to keep the pirated copies using the bad serial numbers from being further updated. This means that if you used one of those bad serial numbers, upgrade to XP SP1 and try to install new Windows patches/drivers/etc, you won't be able to. The SP1 will NOT cause you "sporadic" lock ups or any other such nonsense.
I understand people have a great distrust of Microsoft and its business tactics, but I, for one, would make a point of checking a couple of sources before reporting such inaccuracies about their operating system.

(kidding, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone with a cracked copy had installed other things that made his system unstable)
