    Programming Languages

    Hi,

    I develop websites using PHP.

Now, I would like to learn another language and I'm not quite sure what road to take... Perl, C#, ASP...?

What languages do you feel are being most requested in today's job market?

Please share your opinion and experiences.

    Thanks.

    Jorge

PS: And what about .NET - microsoft? Should we programmers take a closer look at this?

    ColdFusion.
    Easy, clean, industrial-strength, well-paid.

It's also restrictive, boring, doesn't do much, stuff it does do is by what the programs put into the program, its just like HTML but even more boring!

    .NET

Start with C# or VB on .NET (you can switch very easily between them, believe it or not).

I'm just starting to learn php (by teaching myself) and I'm finding there are a lot of similarities between it and Java, C/C++, and Perl. Sometime programming languages are easier to learn if you have some knowledge to base it off of.

do C/C++ because it's syntax is borrowed for languages like php and perl. so learn C/C++ and you can learn everything!

    Restrictive and boring? ROFL
    Give me a break.
Just because it's not open source and free...

By the way...an application coded in PHP took 15 times more to finish executing than 10 lines of ColdFusion doing the same thing.

I must ask.. who said open source? for 1 i don't believe completly in that crap and people who sit there saying that its the way of the future need to move to a communist country because we are living in a capitilisem enviroment..

Second it is boring i have used it produced with it and put it in for real world public use you use tags like HTML

    and for another things
When php takes 15seconds to complete something then its doing something large i have only ever writen two scripts that took over 15 seconds and that was using it to do a 212Mb database inportinto a database

other then that the one other thing i did that required was to do a few complex things that i wont get into (Because it was boring as sin) and because i signed discloser forms.. (So strickly speaking i aint allowed to talk about it)

Other then that i say learn something like C++ or even java (Despite what some may say about it, its and interesting langue to learn)
