Wow, guess which server is hardly ever used, eh?
In 29 hours, the jaguar server will pass the astrological timespan of one year exactly. Wow...
That is a LOT of uptime! ^_^
This is a discussion on jaguar server nearly up for 1 year!! in the Open Discussion & Chit-chat forum

Mods, please edit this post if it is considered inappropriate advertising for another host, but I was just so amazed that I had to share it with others.

Kind of puts the uptime stats of most other webhosts to shame.
<<<MOD EDIT: Yes, it is considered inappropriate>>>
It's now hit 366 days, a leap year.
BTW, what was the uptime at that URL you posted?

As I understand, Jaguar is the dedicated server that hosts these forums. It's more stable because it isn't hosting hundreds of user accounts like most of the other servers here.
Did you look at the prices on the host mentioned though (before it was censored)? They better be up all the time! I'd think you could have several accounts here on different servers at those prices, providing better redundancy and overall uptime.![]()

I thought the same thing, plus if a person works out what 99.9% is in a month, it allows 3/4 hr of downtime. I'm fortunate to be hosted on Swan, so there's no advantage for me there.Originally posted by lookout

For your info, folks, these prices were the norm 4-5 years ago. Nowadays they are the norm only when one requires such great uptime.

T.C., I know. Even today you can still pay prices like those without much real guarantee of uptime. Possibly the higher prices may mean less populated servers, which is generally better for stability. But all it takes is one disaster if you don't have redundancy, and even then....
If uptime is really critical to you, look into a dedicated server (still $$$), or better (and at a small scale, cheaper) multi-homed servers. All I was saying was that with that kind of budget, there are better options now.

No sooner than we said "look at this great server", Jaguar was rebooted (and with quite a few hours of downtime I gather)..
Right now: Uptime 37 minutes
I guess the aletiastatus.com page is also on jaguar, as it was inaccessible last night as well...
The last Aletia front is going down
One third of aletia's servers (6 out of 18) have rebooted during the last week.. not a very good score, if you ask me...
A case of Murphy's Law of Perversity in action.![]()
I suspect Aletia performed some server software upgrades this last weekend. I know they did on Dragon, so possibly they did on others as well. On Jaguar things don't seem to have gone so smoothly, requiring a reboot. Well, these things happen. The continuing stream of upgrades and patches issued by the computing industry are not always healthy for a server's general stability and uptime. Although I'd think on Jaguar they'd leave well enough alone, since it had been running smoothly for over a year. I'll bet support probably thought some update/upgrade couldn't wait any longer.
