    I bailed to Value Web

It's the weekend, good time to change DNS servers (except for my mass email)

Their control panel is lame, but at least their up.

I just out a huge mass email for a film I'm casting. I was a victim of the week long cobra downtown and I never did get a refund for downtime. So I'm willing to pay $20 a month to get guaranteed uptime and call someone on the phone 24/7 when there's a problem.

Aletia sucks man - that's all there is to it. :cold:

I'll leave my Aletia to access via IP until I scarf all my maillist, leftover emails and the like.

It will be interesting to see if aletia gets their DNS fixed before my new valueweb IP takes over

    Good Idea

Let me know how it works out. I wouldn't mind paying the extra 10 dollars a month. I wish I knew more about their MySql package. I don't believe it is included with the 19.95. And I'm not sure how they are with realaudio. I like the idea of ASP being included though.
    Keep us posted.

Account setup was smooth and speedy. As I knew before from reviews, the control panel and email accounts are not as nice as Aletia, in ease of use, response time and flexibility.

But they're up and my guess is in the next year my site will not be down for 7-10 days (depending on how long this outage lasts). I've only been on Aletia since Feb. and this downtown is just outrageous.

I'm publishing my site via Frontpage as we speak - working like a champ so far.

I set up monthly billing with Valueweb, so if it bites, I'll move on. But I know now, that guaranteed uptime and 24/7 phone support is a must, even for a small-time filmmaker like myself. Downtime happens at the worst times.

All that remains is my mass email list and then just wait for DNS to kick around the net and no more Aletia Hell for me. This time, if I don't get a refund, I will since AMEX on them.

    Value Web

Hope you have a better time with them than I did, the last couple of months my site was down more than it was up... that's why I switched to Aletia this month (go figure!)

    Webhost

I moved from Verve hosting, which was quite reliable. I will be moving back as soon as possible.

You might want to check out http://www.powweb.com - they offer 250 MB for $7.77 per month. Not sure of all the other specifications, but it has to be better than this.

Yeah, I have no illusions that ValueWeb is without issues. I know some users have had problems similar to yours.

But, it can't compare to this outage (the whole company and all sites) or the extended days & days outages on cobra and other machines.

I hope you are lucky with your new hosts.

It does bother me though that several people think its better that the DNS goes down on a weekend, in fact thats the worst possible time for my sites which see peak traffic when people are at home ... therefore early morning and evenings at the weekends.

    Bailing from valueweb

Well, I'm off ValueWeb. Their free mailing list (Constant Contact) is not free :bawl:

Most of the other moderators will leave this up however clio still seems to feel a sense of loyalty and might delete it - hope you see it first if that occurs.
