    I'm leaving

This is most definately the last straw, i've seen kids set up better systems.

I'm 18, have no major practical network experience, yet i've set up small networks with redundancy that work better, hell one of my boxes has set on fire before and the network stayed up and running and didnt flinch when the DNS and DHCP flicked over to the redundant box

I'm registering a new domain and a new account in a few minutes, then i'll see what I can do about my current one

I agree that this is a the last straw, I won't rubbish Aletia because they have done great work in the past for the money I pay them. I came here on several good personal recommendations and would still recommend them as a low cost hosting service. I may even keep one of my less important sites here.

However I moved to Aletia from a more expensive host and can go back to a higher price range host if needed. It saddens me to see any company, especially one who's staff have always been friendly and helpful struggle in this way. If this latest exodus of customers doesn't ruin them, then it might actually help to shake them into shape.

If there are enough people left to warrant staying in business.

I've corresponded with a couple of potential new hosts today, all of them are doing a very brisk business because of Aletia.

I think this is it for me, too. I just signed up for another host. And yeah, I really appreciate the good year I've had at Aletia. My last host was much more expensive than Aletia. The service was comparable.

I also think I'm going to keep one of the less mission-critical sites here. But I've got too much at stake for my own site in September to have downtime like this. My site is part of a major DVD release come September 3rd -- I'd be dying a thousand deaths right now if that date was August 3rd. As it is, I'm dying a hundred deaths.

I hate to be all mushy -- but I'm really sad about moving. It's like the end of an era. I was able to grow out my site a good bit at Aletia, and I brought a lot of friends here -- all of whom were happy until just recently.

I just took a good look at terra-byte and plan on looking into them further this weekend.

As far as Aletia OH-WELL - for months and months we have almost been begging them to get their act together and they simply ignore us.

I would imagine that the employee(s) assuming their is more then 1 are as exasperated as we are. They have some definite management issues in that whoever is responsible for the overall operations and policy of this company hasn't the vaguest idea on how to run a service organization.

For someone like clio to give up well that pretty much says it all!!

For any of you who have ANY files on aletia that you do not have on your local HD - I strongly recommend that you dl them while you can - as of yesterday anyway the ftp was still working (at least on Eagle) better safe then sorry!

    G. Bloke I understand what you are saying having had numerous businesses in the past.

We signed on to Aletia around the same time last October and for awhile the service was quite good. But for months that has not been the case and I concur that Dana and Ron and way back when Laurie were friendly consciencious and competent. As I said above I think that they are probably doing the best that they can but are under some sort of constraints that make it impossible for Aletia to be a responsive fully functional service organization, and that is unfortunate.

The first couple of months with Aletia I recommended the service without reservation to many - if asked today I would have no choice but to STRONGLY recommend that they find ANY hosting service other then Aletia.

Maybe they have too many users or something. I signed up over a year ago and their support was great. I got instant responses. They were even on ICQ and AOL IM, not, I never see them online. I submitted a help ticket 5 days ago and have received no response.

They even have 8 BBB complaints now.

Maybe of enough people leave, they will get their act together or it will be easier for them to.

New Start Up Hosts Deliver More

I agree. I have noticed that the more popular a small hosting company becomes the more trouble it finds itself in when it can't handle the growth factor. I had to relocate my domains on account that it's been over a month since I requested an ssl cert and have gotten no response among many other requests.

I recently found a new hosting company that has excellent servers and tech support with lower prices than aletia.com... http://ezoshosting.com

they have mod_rewrite for search engine freindly urls if you're running phpnuke or some other database driven system... the founder is a PostNuke devloper too so the server is tweaked for postnuke, phpnuke, and other php portal systems.
