    Moving, too

Today I registered with another host, and I'm already up and running over there, believe it or not.

    The reasons are as followed:

    1. Past downtime problems that continue to happen

    2. Extremely slow customer support. This occurred with me several times when I waited for weeks for answers or resolutions to problems. I continued to give Aletia a chance despite the complaints I was hearing from everyone else, and as recently as a little over a week ago, I referred a friend of mine to Aletia. She opened an account, posted a question to the ticket system, and waited five days for the answer to a very simple question. I was quite embarrassed that I'd ever recommended Aletia to her in the first place.

    3. Today's problems with the DNS really was the last straw. This was a really critical weekend for my site and now the bulk of it is gone.

I hoped all day that Aletia would resolve matters, but they have not and so in the meantime I opened an account with another host.

It seems that Aletia's going to be losing lots of business these days.

no need for two threads, and I fail to see how this is a support issue...

    Dogma,
The second post was in error... It must have posted twice when I refreshed a little later on. Sorry about that!

Not a support issue?? It WAS a support issue, and I think the reasons I outlined described just why that was.

Or I don't know. Maybe constant downtime, crappy customer support, and inattention are not support issues at all.

I just have to laugh... the fact that all of the messages from disgruntled customers were moved to "chit chat" really speaks louder than anything about Aletia's concerns about their customers. Just idle chit chat? Aletia may think so, but there are more than a handful of people who were here today who obviously feel that their concerns are more than meaningless banter.

    Thanks.

First of all, the mods here are not emplyed by Aletia. They are ordinary users that have devoted their time to helping out keeping things in order here. Part of that being moving threads to the appropriate forums.

Second of all, I also failed to see it as a support question. You stated you were moving, but you didn't need any support in doing that. Maybe the chit-chat forums should be called general discussions instead, but I think Dogma was right to move it.

The multiple posts today are a problem with the boards, not the people writing the messages. It's done it to me several times. Once it even said the server was too busy, and to wait and try again later.

    The message was posted anyway.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like an evil _______ (insert fun word here!). It's not a problem at all.

You haven't asked for support or help, you gave us your valid reasons for leaving.

Yes, they are support issues. However, you're not asking for support, you're telling us that you're going to leave and why you're going to leave.

Sorry, I don't write the forum descriptions. Maybe I put this in the wrong thread, but I moved it because you are not asking for support.

I don't work for aletia and I had a, um, fun day moderating yesterday. My server was down too. I was just trying to clean up the mess that some people created yesterday.

Maybe move it to "Aletia Chit Chat"? Then both of you would be right.

I think that potential new customers have a right to know that Aletia has probelms with these issues. I don't think potential customers are going to be reading the chit chat forum when trying to decide if they should sign up at Aletia. I am not trying to discourage anyone from signing up. Different people have different needs. But I think customers should be entitled to know what went on yesterday. No, what happened yesterday was not normal, but since it happened, it should be made known. Also, it should give Aletia some reason to take a look at how they handled it, and how they handle everyday communication, and how they could improve support for future comments. I have left to, But there are a lot of good things going for Aletia. They have a great ticket system, and a great control panel, and great features for the price range.

If they could only get the people like Dana, and Laura to quickly respond to tickets, and resolve issues like billing, giving refunds, and getting domain passwords reset, so people could transfer their domains to other registrars, then I think that Aletia would attract a lot of good feedback, and this would lead to new customers. I think it's horrible that people have to wait days or weeks for something as simple as these three issues to be resolved.

Dogma, I was a little touchy yesterday because my frustration level had gone skyhigh. *hehe*
Sorry if I came off as bitchy, and I probably shouldn't have posted that in the support area but I was following suit in the same place where so many others were posting the same things. And no one reads chit chat! :weyes:
I completely understand why it was moved, though, and apologize for being difficult.

Joshua, I agree that potential customers have a right to know what they are getting into, and hopefully they will browse the entire forum to get a complete picture. Before I opened my account with aletia, I looked in the support and downtime sections and not in chit chat.

There's no "Bitching about Aletia" category.

Maybe Suggestions & Feedback would be the appropriate place for a thread like this. It is feedback I guess. That is also a forum I would check before signing up.
