Seems like i moved my sites just in time - with the Aletia DNS problems this past weekend and my new host no longer accepting new clients due to exponential growth.

I don't harbor any bad feelings toward Aletia. They were a good host for the past year. But in the last few months, I've seen a huge drop in the quality of service. I figured I had better move on now instead of trying to fight for a refund in the fall.

As of Sept 29th, I will no longer be an Aletia customer.

yeah, i have no hard feelings against them either. aside from the failure of scorpion in march. but i was immediately moved to a new server swan, which is a great server and i've never really had problems. but i moved just in case something happened, and i needed room to expand my site.

I have already departed Aletia's Hosting services. They just were not good enough. They still haven't done an overhaul on their services. I was sad to leave as there were some great things at Aletia. Anyway.....

I'm looking for a new host at the moment. I'm still giving Aletia time to fix the problem with Kiwi, but am very quickly running out of patience. Next outage I'm asking to be moved to a more reliable server, if my request is denied, I'll move the site to a different provider.

I'm biding my time and keeping my options open for when I have to re-up or ship out in October.

I haven't had to open a support ticket since way back before Laura left the show, so I'm not ready to say Aletia has Jumped the Shark. But if TED McGINLEY starts posting announcements or something like that, then I may have to re-evaluate.

Seriously, I've poked around at many other hosting companies and not many offer as much for as little as Aletia. Making that "Hosting Plans Feature Chart" thing is becomming an art form. Either other hosts don't have as many features or Aletia has better technical writers ...

I am looking around at other hosts. My year term expires on the end of September. So I have to make a choice by then.

It's going to be a hard choice because I have had no complaints since they have moved me from Puma to Dragon. Dragon has an uptime of 62 days 16 hours 31 minutes right now. How can I complain about that?

On the other hand, I had no problems with Scorpion after I first signed up. Then, after a couple months things went downhill fast. So I was moved to Puma. A couple months after that, things went downhill on Puma. Then I had to wait a LONG time to be moved to Dragon. So, previous history tells me that this good behavior from Dragon will only last another few weeks. We'll see.

Another thing that scares me is the level of service if there is a problem. It nice to say things are great when you aren't having any problems. But once things get crazy, I don't want my tickets going un-read.

    So...

I had the same decision to make. In the end, I decided I would rather be safe than sorry. Especially since my ticket requesting my account renewal date has yet to be answered (it's been more than 20 days).

I'm undecided at the moment. The communication is bad and downtime can be a problem (*knock on wood*), but the features for price are hard to beat. That said, I'll soon be setting up a domain for another project with another host with an innovative pricing scheme and see how that goes.

Also, I don't have much of a choice at the moment... they seem to be holding my domain registration login information hostage... tickets T-50552 & T-51177 if a tech support person happens to be reading this.

As with flipdoubt my contract is up in October. After the DNS fiasco I have been looking for another host and was planning on moving in the next week or two.

However now that Aletia has been taken over by Jaguar I will remain for the moment with a wait and see attitude.

However as I stated in another thread that is only if they are able to at least temporarily stabilize EAGLE while this migration to Houston takes place. Eagle has been down part of every day for at least a week perhaps two. If the migration takes some time as I imagine it will until it is completed I will not suffer the daily down time that seems inevitable with Eagle in it's current condition.

I hope they can do something about that and if the words from Greg are not mere words and they are backed by action - then I would love to stay with Aletia.

Who needs the agrevation of moving their site not me! Like everyone else all I want is a hosting company that can provide me with obviously the tech goodies I need but with UP time being the rule not the exception.

It's just a shame that it always has to happen like this. If I stay with Aletia (and it looks like I will) this is the first host with whom I've stayed more than one year.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to renew and exactly when my account needs to be renewed. I sent a ticket to support, but I hear the have a lot to wade through.

If switching just know that the company is now under new ownership and we are doing our very best to improve the situation for our new clients.

Stick with us and you will see that the quality JaguarPC offers our clients will be worth the wait while we reorganize under new onwership. Thanks everyone.

    James,

I'm not going to switch. I really want to stay. I just need info from support (or is it sales) on when I have to renew and what I need to do.

I opened a ticket requesting this info, but I'm not sure whether it would be better to send an email to sales ...

Also, what do you think about my suggestion at http://aletiaforums.com/showthread.p...er=3#post37007 that announcements should be kept separate from the Forums, lest we depend to much on these Forums for support.
