Is this the same management that we have had or is this a new team?

If there billing system is in similar condition to their support system, then I would say they have their work cut out for them.

If in fact this is the beginning of an attempt to turn this concern into a business with a potential future, I sincerly hope that in addition to the billing and sales issues (people are still signing up ??) they address the technical problems especially those that have been causing recurring down time on various servers and if they are able to accomplish that begin an immediate PR campaign to inform and enlighten us (Aletia's Customers) as to what they have done and how it is expected to affect us in a positive manner.

    How's that for a run-on sentence j. keller?

So what do you think guys - Is this an attempt to get their house in order?

Do you think it is too little too late - or is it still possible that Aletia can pick themselves up, dust themselves off and survive all the recent fiasco's?

I personally might hold out hope if their is indeed some new management in place and they have some experience in running a service organization and realize that a company without customers is merely a registered name on a piece of paper.

If this post is from the same management team merely trying to put a bandaid over the gapeing self-inflicted bullet hole after Aletia's last attempt at suicide then I seriously doubt we will see any noticible change.

Their status page which shows EAGLE only being up a bit over 7 hours as of 12:58pm, which means that EAGLE was down again after the DNS debacle. EAGLE has been down a part of almost every day during the past 10 days or so - perhaps longer.

If this is indeed new management or a NEW ATTITUDE from the old team my inclination is too give them a chance to demonstrate what they can accomplish and not move in the next week or two as planned. However if this down time with Eagle continues, I don't see as how I can do anything other then join the rush to find other hosting alternatives.

There were a few negative comments made about some of the moderators who were here previously, I forget who made them and that is not significant. Those who were or are so ready to critisize - why don't you volunteer and spend even a portion of the time that those fine volunteers have spent in trying to assist individuals with the infinite variety and number of problems that they have? I have disagreed with them before on trivial matters such as where a post belongs, but those concerns were just that trivial and I never forgot when stating my position just how many people they have helped

SO MODERATORS PAST AND PRESENT I THINK YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A WELL DESERVED THANKS YOU!!

    Hi EHG,

Before I comment on your thread, you should read the thread that Not4You started which became the semi-official Q&A for the Jaguar Technologies, LLC acquisition of AletiaHosting

    http://www.aletiaforums.com/showthre...&threadid=5570

I can well assure you that the 'new team' is not the 'same management team' that has been running Aletia - Jaguar Technologies, LLC is a newly registered name for JaguarPC.com which has been providing excellent web hosting services since 1998. Greg and Eric (hmm, consider them to be the head honchos at JaguarPC ) will be merging both AletiaHosting customers and our own JaguarPC customers into our new data center located in Houston.

There are A LOT of things answered in the link I posted above - you should carefully read all the posts there and add on if you have any questions and concerns and I'll try to address them or just leave it to either Greg (Jag) or Eric (EricE) to answer

Thanks you John - Obviously many of my questions were answered some twelve hours before I posted this thread.

I have read the posts in the thread that you were considerate enough to link too and most of my questions have been answered.

As I stated my inclination was to stay with Aletia if there was immediate and substantial improvements and I for one shall not depart immediately as planned but will take a wait and see attitude.

I do not know how long the migration will take for the transfer to the Houston site, I'm sure that Jaguar personnel are doing everything possible to expedite the entire merger and the move.

However I do have to state that as of late of all the servers Aletia has EAGLE has and continues to be the most unreliable. It has been down for a portion of almost every day during the past week or 10 days perhaps longer.

I don't often make presumptions when lacking knowledge yet I would presume that this migration is a complicated affair and might take some time-more then a few days. Therefore my position and I have little doubt is shared by many others who have had the misfortune of having their sites located on Eagle is that we do not have the luxury of a wait and see attitude and will have no choice but to depart, if a successful effort is not made to at least temporarily stablilize Eagle until the entire transfer can be made to Houston.

I wish to congratulate Jaguar Tech on its new acquisition and hope that it turns out to be a profitable business enterprise that brings satisfaction to both the owners and staff at Jaguar and the Customers at Aletia.

In short and sweet response, Greg and Eric's primary intent right after the acquisition was to make sure that problems with Aletia's current operation be shortened out to a near zilch. To elaborate, Greg and Eric will be going through Aletia's HelpDesk to make sure that all support-related issues are taken care of - I think this includes trying to fix the major problems that have been reported through the helpdesk and/or forums. I am positive that all server-related issues will be looked at and attempts will be made to fix whatever caused problems.

I'm really not sure what kind of timeline has been planned for the actual migration but I do know that there are multitudes of servers ready to be put into action in our new data center in Houston. Greg and Eric both have been very excited about the new data center in Houston - which is why I believe that they want to be live as soon as possible - but knowing them, I am sure that they will carefully prepare and plan the migration so that problems will not popup anywhere unexpectedly.

    Lookin' good, EHG!

Thanks. I'd also like to add a "thanks" for all that the other moderators have done.

I'd also like to welcome John, Greg and Eric to these forums. I know that it's never an easy task to mod, and stepping into these troubled waters will be even more difficult. Let's give them a bit of extra slack. As EHG pointed out, they're a new group of people trying to address pre-existing conditions. Be fair, everyone, and evaluate them on what results you experience.

I would like to say a friendly goodbye to the Aletia team. I had several excellent experiences with members of their staff, such as Ron and Dana, as well as Sujit and Veena from the outsourced help center. While Aletia had many problems, they also had their shining moments and we shouldn't forget that.

EHG, Eagle is crap because it rides the Genuity backbone in Florida. It's in another NOC, not the one that the other servers reside at.

I have some renewal questions, like when and how to renew. I opened a support ticket, but should I send an email to sales instead?

timechange from the traceroutes I have run, which have been a substantial amount I gathered the following information and perhaps I have misinterpreted it.

All the traceroutes using neotrace show a horrendous slow down as soon as it reaches bbnplanet.net or Genuity. The rt increases by a factor of 10x or 20x and this is almost always the case.

When Eagle has been down and I have run a trace it dies not at the bbnplanet nodes but at the the 3d wizard node just before mine.

This node has the same ip # as my site and I would assume (again an assumption based on little technical knowledge) that this last node before my site is EAGLE where it would hand it off to my site? Over the past couple of weeks this has been the case whenever Eagle was down and I did a trace.

So I concur the Genuity network seems to handle traffic very slow compared with most others but it seems that the down time with Eagle is not a network problem but a server problem.

I have posted a trace that I ran a few moments ago at 0833 hours PDT August 16th. It also reflects the huge slowdown in the Genuity network. Heres the link:

NEOTRACE 0833 HRS PDT AUG 16

Also I concur with j. keller about the new moderators and the entire jaguar staff - they have inherited some very difficult preexisting problems and due to neglect the quantity of inquiries and support requests is probably huge. So although many of us have developed attitudes due to previous customer service neglect by Aletia - lets be fair as j. keller said and base our attitudes on what this new team does - and give them a fair amount of time to dig through the pile and try to resolve the issues.

    edit

the date should read Aug 15th not 16th.....duh

    J. keller did you change the animation in your avatar?

after a couple of centuries my memory is not as it was like when i was a mere 100 or so but it seems different - anyway I like it!! :0

After all the other problems are resolved in short order by the Jaguar team (might as well take an optimistic attitude) I think that they should change the allowable size of our avatars from 50x50 to 65x65 which does give us more latitude when playing with our animation toys and also allows for some clairity if we incorporate txt. :weyes:

Yes please send all "non support" related inquiries to the correct dept. We are now in control of those and guarantee we will get back to you. As one might imagine there is a bit of a back log with some of Aletia.

For general questions or questions on new accounts please mail sales@aletia.com

For questions about your accounts billing please mail billing@aletia.com

Nope, it should be the same. I haven't changed it since I uploaded a tweaked version (longer pauses between cycles to save people's eyes!). And that was minutes after the first upload -- a few months ago. If not your age, it must be all that time traveling!

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened when they merged Aletia's forums with JaguarPC's. Greg, or someone else, had mentioned that there'd be a new design and the current design at that time. Plus, their current forum design allows for the large (default) sized avatars.

Must be the duck jkeller. Apparently my antiquated warp drives might need servicing. Often when I come to a screeching stop from warp 10, I find that I have missed my destination by a few centuries - anybody have a little extra WD 40??

That would be one way for JaguarPC to obtain the eternal allegiance of EHG. For others it might require a bit more, what can I say I'm just an avatar SLUT!

Ohhh, about a hundred times over the past six months (or longer) I've looked at lots of other hosts while here at Aletia. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of switching. One of the companies that seemed to provide fairly consistent service was Jaguar. It was not perfect, but very reliable. When the DNS DEBACLE occurred last week, I was ready to do the switch but held on a little longer (having read the less than sublime comments of Jag).

I'm glad that something is happening and I feel it's going to be good. I think there's a lot of us who look forward to better days. I, for one, am glad for the change.

    Uh... test

Well, let's see, if this IS a fresh start, that means I'm not banned anymore, right? I mean, if these new people WANT to answer questions and help us, and I was banned for asking questions (true, it was the same question in 3 forums, but it WAS on topic in all 3 and wasn't being answered in the first one), then certainly I'm un-banned, right?

    OMG! OMG! OMG!

I'm NOT banned! Maybe this is turning over a new leaf around here! Maybe I WILL be able to build webpages again! Maybe I will be able to edit my files more than one time a day! Maybe my chmods wont self-change to lock me out again! Maybe I'll even change my icon to something a little less insulting..... maybe.

I guess I'll have to try to log in to my account and see if anything works now, it's been months since I've even tried, I gave up long ago. Maybe even if it doesn't work, maybe they will FIX it now??? Is that a possibility now? That my account might be fixed, after months and months of them banning me here, and not receiving any help via the "support" system? Well, I'm not even sure I want to try now, I've been so hurt by these people, I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I guess you are right, I should TRY to let them prove themselves before I knock them, so OK, I'll try it out, and see if it works again now. As far as giving the forum mods another chance, that's gonna be hard, but I'll try to be nice to them, if they try to be nice to me. I'm sure it was all a big misunderstanding last time, but hey, certainly they can understand that when a person's account is useless to them, and that person asks for help in one forum, waits DAYS and DAYS for a reply, and gets none, certainly it's understandable that the person wants to get a reply, and that was all I was trying to do when I re-posted it elsewhere, I just wanted a little help. OK, I know now, that's against the rules, but I SWEAR, I didn't see the rules b4 I did it, I swear, I couldn't FIND any rules in this forum. NOW, they are ovbious, but back then, I may be wrong, but I swear, I didn't even see them.

I guess that's all in the past now, they are giving me another chance, so I'm giving them one too.
