    Aletia Better?

I have this question. About 4 months ago I signed up for an account with Aletia. The first month I was double billed, could not get my multiple domains set up or any response to tickets on this matter. My site was down a lot! The support was atrocious to say the least. I decided to cancel within the 30 day trial & had to actually contact the credit card processing company to get my account cancelled and my double billing credited as Aletia would not do so. Not that they said no... they just ignored my requests. Depite several support emails, forum postings and tickets I never received a response. After contacting the CC processor they cancelled my account.

Now I liked the plan that was offered and the price it was offered at, but I need support that will be there & after my previous experience I am very leary of coming back here. Is there any way that previous customers who had these type of problems could get a 30 day trial to see how the new management performs without being charged. It took me 2 months of pure stress to get my money back & my billing discontinued. This after I spent 2 weeks migrating my large site here! I am sure you can understand my reluctance to jump back on a ship that was already sinking.

Deco, remember that Aletia has just been bought out by Jag. They are a good, well established hosting company. Everything will be better.

I was like you with tons of problems with Aletia, but with them being owned by a new company that I have researched & found nothing but good comments about I am reconsidering. I also realize that no matter how good a company is, the problems at Aletia that poor management has caused will take some time to sort out completely. I actually feel sorry for those folks at Jaguar that have to deal with this mess, but every indication is that they are dealing with it, unlike Aletia did. In my book if they can straighten this out then they are obviously working their hinneys off to do so. I notice that JAG is answering all questions and concerns on the forums and that in itself is something Aletia did not do. I have read all the posts that show the steps they are taking to improve this mess. According to them things should be rolling in the next 2-3 weeks. Thus my asking for 30 days to see if they really can correct the problems that Aletia created. Even you have to admit that the packages offered here are the best anywhere. If this new company will provide good customer support then that will make this the best deal possible. Truth you cannot blame Jaguar for the problems you had with Aletia. Since you already paid for a year I would consider riding it out to see if things improve with the new owners.

Thank you Colin but THIS is exactly what I am talking about... I didn't even know that !!! That's just the way Aletia communicates with their customers (You don't get any information unless you do your own search for hours). But JAG didn't sent any emails with those news either.

It's just like I said my sites on the Cobra server are down again at this minute. And please believe me I wouldn't talk like this and would be so frustrated if Aletia would have done anything for their customers over the last few month. Or at least try to explain or even solve their obvious problems. And as mentioned above I already lost a lot of Users/Customers and that is really, really sad/bad

OK, anyway, I guess with these news, I will give it a try with JAG and still stay my two or three month I already signed up for and I'll see if anything actually changes with the new owner, Jag. It's just not a good start with cobra down again ;-)

I still remember when I started with Aletia it was a good company too. But not anymore.

    Hello Coolbaby,

thank you too and like mentioned I didn't know about the new company
And I surely don't blame JAG for the mess Aletia left. With this perspective I will stay and try it anyway.

And the hostingplans you mentioned are actually the ONLY reason I am still here You're right there is nothing like that and for that price.
And I looked around a lot the last few weeks because I was about to switch to another host any day.
But all the great plans are worth nothing at all if they don't work, right!?

Well, let's see how things work out, I guess it can't get worse

Thank you guys for your answers and for actually make me think positive about this webhost's future in a long time again (but it's JAG anyway so still nothing positive about aletia )

    Hey Deco,

I agree with you 100%. Aletia was a nightmare. Things are looking up with Jaguar in the drivers seat now. In this business a good hosting plan isn't worth anything without good customer support. Excessive server downtime + no support = Lost Customers.

I think you'll find that communication has changed even more than you have mentioned. Looking around, you'll find that:

    • there was an announcement posted in the announcements forum three days ago
    • there was another thread started two days prior to the offical announcement, which quickly became a clearing house for Aletia customers and Jaguar employees
    • and at the top of every forum listing, there is an announcement that points to the celainghouse thread (check out the top of this forum's list, for example)

All this to say that I think that there has been ample opportunity to learn about the changeover before posting a "nobody communicates" type of note. You have every right to expect good communication, but it's also up to you to read these communications. Look in the established "Announcements" forum at the very least. That doesn't require a search for "hours".

On the other hand, it's entirely possible that you didn't get an e-mail announcement from JaguarPC about the buyout. There was very little that Aletia had established, and so a new mailing list had to be created from scratch.

I received a notice on Sunday at two addresses, the one that I have filled in for these forums (in "user cp"/"Edit Profile") and the one that I filled in on my site's CPanel. If you don't have a valid address in either of those locations, I'd guess that you weren't on the list. To be sure that you get future announcements, you should be able to register by sending an e-mail to info@jaguarpc.com to request that you be added to the Aletia annoncements list. The announcement was a copy of the afrementioned post in the "Announcements" forum, in case you wanted to see it.

Like Dogma said, everything will be better. Take a look around, and I think that you'll find a lot of the information that you've wanted. If not, then there are people now answering even when you use the old communication channels.

    responsiveness

It seems that some people did not get the notice that Aletia had been taken over by Jaguar by email.

I want to say that I did (also received it twice as another person did). Though this was one or two days after I started seeing the 'rumours' here on the forums, it's still pretty quick.

Just remember the good old 'snailmail' days where you had to wait a standard minimum of two weeks for a reply to a letter you sent to a company before even considering it might have gone missing or unnoticed (don't worry, some companies still treat you that way now )

Kiwi up for the last 10 days straight... So far so good
