    Jag Takeover & Civilization III

If anyone has played Civilization 3 with a democratic government, they know that after about 3 or 4 turns of being at war all the cities in the civilization start rioting. That's so annoying. The only way to settle them down is to change some of the workers in each city to entertainment mode instead of production, science, or tax collecting.

I think that's kind of what is happening here. The rioting has stopped for now because we are being "entertained" with ideas of a hosting provider that not only takes care of their customers but actually comes through with their promises. I think that's great. I certainly hope that it all comes true.

But before we start celebrating "We Love the Emporer Day" and offering to add on a new wing or fancy facade to his palace, I think we should wait to see what happens in the next month or so. I'm not saying that we should stop posting encouraging messages, but we might want to hold down the all out praise for a bit.

    I'm skeptical. :cold:

I think most people are right now. Basically people are happy because we've seen a great turnaround but we're waiting to see what happens later down the road. For now things are going good so why not be happy? Also with the track record jag has, we don't have to worry too much, though I agree we still have to wait it out and see what happens.
    Nomsane?
    That is all.

JaguarPC say that they will have all accounts/servers intact, but will not that bring problem to Houston?

Actually, they'll be leaving the accounts and the server setups intact, but they won't be moving the hardware. Jag stated somewhere that everyone will be on new machines, slightly faster than the current ones. That means clean installs, and a fresh start.

However, there is one thing that will be brought along: the other users. For the most part, people are well-behaved. But in a shared environment, the old cliché about "one bad apple" is never truer. A rogue script bringing down the machine is the risk that we all run, but I'm personally comfortable with it when service seems as responsive as it is now.

Here's some info that I weeded out of the monster Aletia bought by Jaguar thread:

    JohnH:

The latest development at JaguarPC is that all servers will be migrated to the new Houston Data Center - however, this does not mean that the actual server(s) are being migrated - it means that all the data on the server will be transferred to a new server located in the Houston Data Center.
    Jag:

All of our client servers are dual cpu with either 1.5gig or 2 gig of ram. The drives of our servers are in RAID arrays and also backed up daily. Our machines are slightly more powerful than the current Aletia ones. The newest shared server going up in here in Houston to prepare for the moves is a Dual XEON 1.7ghz wih 2gig ram.
    EricE:

Your IPs will change when moved to the Houston network since we cannot transfer the current IPs. We will contact clients when their data data is being copied over and let them know different sites they can use to check their new IP (clients can use if they use the aletia nameservers). We will also notify clients that they should contact us for their new IP if administering their own DNS so they can update that. Both the server at Aletia and the server at Houston will be up at the same time for about 3 days after all clients are moved from the Aletia server to allow for these types of changes. More information will be given on the server moves and that info should be up at http://www.jaguarpc.com/houston.php when the time comes.
    I hope that helps.

Thanks jkeller. It's nice to have the condensed version.
