    Netscape 7.0

Netscape 7.0 is out. Does anyone care?

My big question is this: Why did they wimp out with the tabs? Why does it still open another window when someone uses <a href="..." target="_blank">? I still end up with a taskbar full of NS tasks.

too little too late as far as I'm concerned !! I don't even care if it is the best browser in the world with bells and whistles heretofore unseen in a browser!!

I stuck with NN for years using NN4.7x way past the time it should have been sent to browser heaven or in their case hell - I refused to give BG the satisfaction of converting me to IE - I was for the underdog EVEN IF THE DAMN UNDERDOG WAS AOL

THEN IT HAPPENED - THEY RELEASED 6.0 - they took an extra year or two - for I believe a total of almost 3 years between 4.7x and 6.0 a rewrite of the code they said and obviously they didn't do near enough beta testing cause those that used 6 when it came out KNOW THAT IT HAD NO RIGHTFUL CLAIM TO BE CALLED A BROWSER - they should have called it NN GARBAGE w/BUGS v6 - well at least they didn't charge for the browser or the bugs.

talk about unstable - freezeups - system lockups - resource hog - quirky - everytime I opened a window with it - it just opened wherever on the screen it pleased and in whatever size it pleased an altzheimer patient can remember better then NN6 - and it still wasn't complient or at least I could not see things that were w3c complient that should have shown up - such as table borders etc - SWITCHED TO IE6 AND I LOVE IT!! EXCELLENT BROWSER - STABLE AS HELL AND USES 1/3 LESS RESOURCES THEN NN AT LEAST TO THIS LATEST VERSION - AND i SKIN IT ALL THE TIME WITH WINDOW BLINDS 3.1 LOOKS GREAT, FUNCTIONAL, LOVE THE LINKS BAR - JUST ADDED A GOOGLE BAR TO IT AND ON TOP OF IT - ITS COMPLETELY FREE!

i usually have a forgiving heart - BUT NN STUCK AN ICE PICK IN IT WITH V6 - NEVER AGAIN NETSCAPE YOU BLEW IT BIG TIME and WHATEVER chance you had of making a comeback DIED WITH THE INTRO OF V6!!

cHECK OUT YOUR the statistics on your sites people - whats the count IE vs NN!!!

grrrrrrrr don't mind me I'm just a ranting, venting duck
and any site I ever work on will be IE COMPATIBLE and if it is NN compatible thats strictly by accident - I wouldn't change 1 line of code to make a site NN compatible - period exclamation mark!!

sounds like I'm still venting doesn't it!

anyway glad NN belonged to aol at the time - such disasters couldn't have happened to more deserving people!!

I stayed with Netscape for the exact same reason as you did, EHG...

Then about a year ago, after all the problems I had with so many websites and the tool itself, I realized that I was only punishing myself, and made the switch.

Netscape 6.0 was horrible, I agree. I switched over to IE again, but 6.1+ was a massive improvement and a worthy browser. =)

Other than taking forever to load into memory, NS 6.2 was pretty decent. NS 7 is faster, so that's good ...

But how can you compare the startup speed of NS, an application, to IE, an integral component of the OS.

Besides, that's Java. I would say that it shows off all the advantages of a VM app, but it doesn't look like good design was made any easier for the developers. The Preferences dialog, for instance, partially cut-off the buttons on all my machines running at 1024x768.

NS 7, by the by, seems to do the same thing.

You really should use Mozilla - it's Netscape without the rubbish! Plus if you enable the fast start up it starts much faster
