Since this is apparently going to be a project that will effect virtually all of those who have been hosted with Aletia I believe that an effort to communicate on Jaguar's behalf would be quite beneficial in making the transition less confusing or stressful to their customers.
Eagle was migrated to host26.nocdirect.com over the past day or two. I was never informed in any official way (via email) that this was going to occur.
Because of this lack of information I reacted when I once again found that my site was not viewable. I probably would have refrained from posting once again about my continuing difficulties with Eagle if I had been aware of the transition that was apparently already underway.
The only way that I found out was when once again I was unable to open my site I did a traceroute using neotrace. It was there that I realized that my site had been moved and that I now had a new host address#.
I had spent much of last evening attempting to ftp some files to my site and after a substantial amount of aggrevation the files were apparently transferred. Most attempts were returned with an error status as 'no room on the device etc., which was not too surprizing considering that the usr/home partition was 96% utilized.
Then I spent a significant amount of time trying to figure out why all the files that I had linked to prior to yesterday evening which were on Eagle were accessed and appeared without difficulty but the 3 graphics files that I uploaded last night would not appear. I must have checked my code 10 times - I deleted and reuploaded the files 3 times after checking to make sure that they were not corrupt and opened in other apps.
Today the same thing occured - I had no knowledge that a migration had taken place. I opened cute ftp pro and tried to upload the 3 graphics files again. Attempts 1 and 2 or unsuccessful witht he same message as above but then they were accepted and uploaded to Eagle without apparent error. However I still would not link to the files successfully.
Only after reading about the migration here on the forum and then running neo trace again using the NAME of my site was I able to get the new host address # of my site. I then opened cute ftp pro and updated it with the new info. I was then able to upload the files I mentioned earlier without any problem and furthermore they all appeared where they were linked from.
As you can see I went through some unnecessary confusion and stress that really was not necessary.
I have little doubt that there are still users out there who were hosted on Eagle and who in the near future are going to attempt to use their ftp programs to upload or download some files and they are going to be in for quite a surprize. Chances are that after perhaps hours of futile attempts and quite a bit of stress they will then clutter up the the support desk at Jag with emails, and support requests.
Since I would assume that Jag has the email addresses of all those hosted on each of their servers it would seem that they could save their customers allot of aggrevation and themselves a significant amount of paper work and customer dissatisfaction by just creating a boiler plate email for each server and sending it to all of their customers hosted on said server.
Perhaps I missed something - perhaps something was done to inform me as a customer of what was occuring or Jag had good reason to believe that I would be informed and have the necessary information for a smooth transition, but if I did - I still don't know where the info was that would have made this much easier, simpler and less stressful for all involved.!
