The Future of the Aletia Forums Community

I know that this is sorta a self-fulfilling prophecy and all, but I'm a bit worried about the future of these forums. Not anything technical or economic, just that the community might lose some or be forced to shed some of its vitality in the time it takes to integrate the systems/communities.

Moreover, the JaguarPC boards just don't seem as active as these. And, even though they're not that active, how will they feel about the influx of us chatterboxes? Sorta like when all the big-fish-in-small-pond freshmen descend on campus for the first time ...

Our forums are not as activate as these, true. Im hoping the introduction of the aletia "chatter boxes" as you put will just spark others to take advantage of the forums more.

I figure a little talk there plus a lot of talk here equals a overall more active forum when combined.

This is something I've been asking myself some time ago. I like this forums, It's one of the sites I visit daily.

I guess sometime in the future both forums, JaguarPC and Aletiaforums, will be merged, that's what Jag said... Let's just hope everything goes alright.

I guess if they can merge the forum (post, threads, etc), they can merge the user databse too.

Well there isnt a vb forum merging tool out yet but I had Ron work one up for us. Yes it will merge the the whole db with users and all. Of course I will have to set up a new layout of forums (combination of jag forums and aletia forum categories) .

What will happen in the case of users who have signed up in both forums under the same name? That's what I did, so I could check out the Jaguar forums. I doubt if I was the only one. Hope that doesn't mean starting over again, or losing one's posts.

What happens in the case of different forum users that happen to share the same user name??? Hard to believe that there won't be any overlap.

Not trying to stir up trouble here. I'm just wondering how such things will be resolved, if at all.

Oh yah... I remember I also signed up there too... mostly because I wanted to view some threads, but I had to be a registered user... >.<

When I imported my old forums from Ultraboard to vBulletin, the duplicated usernames were not stored in the vBulletin database... They were deleted...

Our script pushes duplicate names into a queue for review. Still running tests and tweaking it before it can be used for the live forums though.
