    Less Activity, Old Posts? Billing??

Well I've been away from the forums for a couple of weeks and just noticed that the various forums seem to have lost the old posts. Something happen to the data base or has a new policy been established to roll over into archives or cyberspace oblivion older posts after a preset time of inactivity?

The Aletia Bd and particularly this forum is taking on the charateristics of the Jaguar board - little activity and certainly not the vibrancy that it was once known for. Then again perhaps most of the participants departed for other pastures during the worst of the Aletia fiascos??

CONTINUING MY ACCOUNT - When Jaguar absorbed Aletia the Jag Administrator, specifically stated that Aletia customers would be able to continue on with the same Aletia Hosting Plans that they currently have, which I obviously prefer (more bang for the buck) then the corresponding JaguarPc hosting plans.

I originally secured my hosting plan on October 26, 2001
and paid for the 1 year plan incl domain registration (www.aidsnewsarchive.com).

Then sometime in November I registered an additional name (www.aidsnewsarchive.org) and Aletia was nice enough to allow me to make that my primary domain name and park the previous .com which required that a new account w/ a new IP# set up at no additional charge (other then the $9.95 for the additional domain registration).

So I believe I have just a few days to take care of the necessary sign up and payment to continue my hosting here and maintain the rights to the domain name(s).

Therefore I would like simplified and SPECIFIC instructions on how this should be accomplished.

I am aware that this post is of mixed content - but alas I am just too lazy to split it into two posts for two different forums ....

Lastly the emoticons ... 4 of them are not appearing in the visible window and many more no longer are appearing when I open the 'get more' window?? Is this just a momentary glitch or ????

I think that the older posts aren't showing up because of the default listing options. Since there's been less activity, the threads with less activity drop out of sight. You just need to change the pulldown for the time period at the bottom of each forum's listing and click "go".

Setting that to "from the beginning" will show you that nothing's disappeared. Quite the contrary -- Jaguar seems committed to merging the entire content of these forums with their own. While I'll have to wait and see what that gives as results, It's certainly an admirable intent. They could have easily closed these forums and forced everyone over to their own instead of spending the time to merge what some might consider superfluous information ("that old content is about them, not us").

As for the missing smileys, I've noticed it for about a month. I think it's related to when the Aletia logo was temporarily lost. Perhaps a directory wasn't able to be correctly restored.

Oh, and for the support question, you might want to consider opening a ticket at the Jaguar help desk. Or at least posting that in the General Support forum. The Jaguar people seem to get around, but I don't think they'll necessarily read every post -- especially with the machine moves going on. Since this thread's title doesn't reflect a support request, I wouldn't be surprised if it got overlooked. Just a suggestion to avoid unecessary delays...

I noticed the emoticons available are now the same as those on the Jaguar forum, and indeed it happened when the forum was offline for a few days.

So perhaps it's the first sign of merging

That would make a lot of sense, but I'm not sure it was intentional. The emoticons that are available are the standard ones included in vBulletin's base install.

There was a thread a looong time ago solliciting new smileys, and many were added. It would make sense that those would be lost, along with any other customization like the Aletia logo, if there'd been a fresh install.

Personally, whatever the reason, I'm fine for a limited range -- at least for the meantime. But I'm probably not the best source for an opinion, since I rarely use 'em anyway!

    Thanks J. Keller

I just sent an email to billing@aletia.com as instructed in the Announcements and Notices forum:

    http://aletiaforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5569

Basically things have been running smooth for me since the EAGLE move was finally completed.

I was somewhat dismayed over the disappearance of the forum for awhile, mostly because of the lack of notification not the actual fact of it being down. It was just too similar to the treatment we were getting from Aletia.

I have however concluded that the personnel at Jaguar seem to be doing their utmost to make as painless as possible for their clients the move to Houston at the same time they are integrating Aletia as a part of Jaguar.

After the initial annoyances dissipated and the new server proved reliable I accepted the fact that EAGLE being the first server to be migrated to the new location was a learning process and would probably make subsequent migrations a bit more seemless.

I also believe that they are making a diligent attempt to keep the clients of both companies informed and are attempting to cause as little disruption as possible while this integration of companies continues.

Therefore I have decided to continue with Jaguar/Aletia and have them provide my hosting for the next year.

(assuming I get a timely response to my email on how to accomplish that)

    Hang in there, EHG!

I hadn't thought about the billling address -- good call. It's liable to be a bit slow, from what I've seen others experiencing. I'll cross my fingers for you...

If "Big" Louie is another duck, I'd really hate to clean the windshield/windscreen after his visit...

I haven't noticed any missing posts myself. I believe jkeller's explanation about why things may appear that way is correct. One method of spot checking this would be to select the search button under a particular post and see if the number of posts there tallies up to that user's posting total. The few I checked myself looked like they did.

I have had no luck getting any kind of response from the billing@aletia.com address for my own renewal, even though I attempted to contact them before the expiration date. However I did get a reference number using the update form. If you haven't seen it yet, this thread may be of some interest to you. At least it might help you avoid a few of the pitfalls that might cause a double billing.

And yet we get a treat to two separate messages
Hey, you should change your avatar back to the 'small meaningless boring dull' element, not the big black hole. I'm afraid we might all fall into it otherwise...

I'm sure you'll think of something useful to say soon Kiwi, but it's a wise person that doesn't open his/her mouth when nothing worthwhile would come out!

(Unlike me, posting this pretty useless message )
