Temporary forum shutdown due to pending merge.

Thanks for the timely announcement Jag.

I take it that the forums will not be available at all in the meantime, meaning not as a "read only" archive. If so, could you please post that same announcement, as well as a link to the Jaguar forums, on the AletiaForum home page when it happens? That would be much better than having a page pop up saying the forums have been closed for maintenance. Or getting a page not found error!

Good luck with the merge, and may it go as smooth as possible. I'm sure many of us out here appreciate the work being done on it.

The forums will be closed during that merge. Im not going to redirect these boards though, the jag forums will be closed too. When they both open back up you will be able to access either board and be posting in the same single merged db.

Didn't realize that when I posted above, but that makes sense. Perhaps you were planning this already, but if possible, it would be good to have a temporary home page at the main forum urls with your original announcement info. Especially if you expect the forums unavailable for more than a few hours. An occasional update there would be good too, if the merge takes longer than expected. That would be a major improvement over the "this forum has been closed for maintenance" page that went up last time. Probably would help keep the natives from getting too restless here as well.

Thank you Julian for coming to our rescue! I hope Jag is offering you at least a free year or two of service for your efforts.

By the way, when the forums come back, will the AletiaForum URL simply be redirected to the Jaguar one, or will something else happen? Will the links in our posts continue to work, or is the merge likely to break them? I was just wondering what to expect. It's not a big deal to me or anything.

REAlly? That's a little crazy. Just have 1 board and redirect everything to 1 location. =)

There is no need to redirect everyone, you'll be on the same board no matter what url you came to it from. Trust me , you'll see what I mean .
