    Host directory

I am developing my website in Dreamweaver MX. I am trying to upload to my website. It asks for a Host directory. How do I find out what my host directory is? I am very new to all of this and My problem is when I upload using your ftp I get this error "Ftp error no such file or directory" So I do not know what my host directory is. Any ideas?

As far as I know, this directory is from the base of your ftp logon.

For account xyz, the base directory for the ftp account xyz is /home/xyz.

The host directory is then public_html (assuming that the site is to be uploaded to this directory.

    Does this make sense?

Your ftp logon is the same as the user name and password provided with your account.

Set your host directory as public_html.

do NOT use dreamweaver MX to upload your site! It messes up files! That happened to me. Use a REAL FTP client instead man, more control and safer. Dreamweaver tries to be slick and uploads files it thinks are newer over your actually newer files.

I'm like you. I don't have a lot of technical understanding.

I agree with clio. Use an FTP program to upload your files. Do not use
Front Page or Dream weaver. I have both, but would never upload files
    using either.

The basic set up for any program that will upload files to your web site
would be ftp.yourdomain.com or whatever your extension name is.

As already mentioned your log in is the same as you use to log into your CP.

This should take you to the root directory, where you will see several folders
displayed. Click on Public_html and upload your files.

With most FTP programs, you can set the default folder that you are going to
upload to. This will be different from the basic connection settings.

You can set your FTP client to open ftp.yourdomain.com/public_html
so when you connect it automatically opens the file you are going to upload
    to.

The file you are uploading to is what dreamweaver is calling the hostdomain.

We have all added to your confusion I'm sure. Hang in there. You will learn,
and next week you may be advising us.

you can change the settings for Dreamweaver, I use both CuteFTP and Dreamweaver depending on what I am uploading, but in dreamweaer it alwasy tells me that is thinks the remote file is newer than the Local file, and ASKS if I wish to overwrite it, I have never had dreamweaver make this call on its own, you can elect to have this happen though, but you have to set it, it is not set that way by defualt,

I have been using MX since the Preview Edition.....
