    Haven't been around for awhile

Noticed that the forums have changed substantially - so where does one go to find out about downtimes issues now -

Since Jaguar took over Aletia and installed the new servers that has not been a problem - at least not one I noticed

Now neon is down big red dot in the http column on network status - Anyplace to get any input on this or is it just like Aletia we wait and hope that the problem is eventually overcome???

So it should read 2001 ? I think the forum merge I did back in Oct may have messed up your signup date. Im glad you havent needed to frequent a downtime related forum. I did do away with that forum in the merge, we post those issues in the news section. Though that neon issue isnt there, we werent aware of the issue honestly until one of my guys saw a thread here about it. Otherwise we would have normally posted there and let everyone know : this is whats wrong, this is what we are doing, and this if how long it will take.

    Hey EHG, welcome back

You still run the AIDS site? Do you ever see those billboards about 1 million treated and 40 million more to go? I've noticed that they now say 1 million treated and 41 million more to go. sigh. and our administration is ignoring the problem.

Thanks for the reply Greg - as I said reliability has not been a problem once the transfer was finally accomplished - at least as far as I know - My concern was that there was no news forthcoming and from your posts I now understand why.

Forgive me if my post in the other forum seemed like a 'rant'.

The only defense I have is to state that such responses were due to the 'conditioning' (do google search on Pavlov) by the former Aletia staff. In the future should there be a problem and I cannot find a 'news' thread on it - I shall submit a support ticket and try to be abit more patient, giving jag the benefit of the doubt as to why notification of the problem has not been made in that forum.

    Hi Julie,

Yes http://www.aidsnewsarchive.org is still my site. Unfortunately I have not had the time to add content to it in a few months. I have a couple hundred related articles mostly formated that I hope to upload soon and bring it back up to date.

However one thing automatically keeps updated and that is the counter that appears on the entry page (link above) which tallies AID's related deaths since 1980 - as of this morning the count is approximately 28,164,500 and every ten seconds it clicks off another human being.

Bush has finally proposed spending a significant amount of money on the problem - not enough but substantially more then he has up to now - personally I think the reasons are not humanitarian in nature but simply because his CIA chief has declared that AIDS is a security risk to the United States and also because such generousity on his part can only help him politically.

Admittedly though he is a great improvement over THE PRESIDENT THAT HE HOLDS IN THE HIGHEST ESTEEM, ronald regan. (lack of capitalization on purpose). Actually I'm not sure if it is spelled ragan or regan or ?? tell you the truth I don't even care!!

ronny refused to even utter the A word while he was in office!
As far as he was concerned it was a "gay" desease and I think he felt if he ignored it, it would go away! There are now more AIDS orphans in the world then there are children in the United States 5 years old and under. Guess it wasn't a gay desease after all!

Poor ronny - should have spend a few more dollars on research for the other "A" desease Alzheimers when he was president - if he had perhaps he and my mother would both be able to remember his administration.

Not a problem, these forums are all about communitcation with other users as well as staff. Don't take that reply in the other thread person by any means. It was directed at everyone just as a request that we be given a chance before anyone uses an aletia type of association.

Looks like some folks know about you here on the forums and welcome your return. Its always good to see active users light up the forums and helps build a community spirit. I look forward to seeing you around the forums and thank you for your feedback.

It's still not enough though, what Bush is doing. An organization was at the Kennedy Library back in December and it was a group of doctors who talked about AIDs. Mary Robinson was there too. Anyway, they talked about how the US government as well as the people have this false impression that the AIDS situation is getting better, but that is only in the United States. Everywhere else in the world, it is getting worse.

But what suprised me more than that was the fact that people with AIDS are discriminated against all over the world, and here. I heard some grusome stories that night.

How does the counter work? It just goes up one every ten seconds? Is that the current rate?

    the counter

    Hi Julie,

    if you go here:

    http://www.aidsnewsarchive.org/index1.html

the page explains exactly how the count is derived.

The counter itself uses the graphical abilities of php. I can't give you the technical details although if you would like to see the code I would be willing to oblige. The concept of the counter and the graphical designs I created but the code for the math involved to make the counter count was written for me by a gentlemen from these (ALETIA AT THE TIME) forums after he read my request for help.

When you open the page the counter reads out the last count. If you refresh or reopen the page you will get the updated count which changes approximately every 10 seconds.

It was not until January and the State of the Union address that Bush finally agreed to fund the AIDS pandemic with anykind of meaningful dollars.

The discrimination continues - but in the U.S. it is not near as bad as it once was. Primarily it is sub-saharan Africa and Asia that is being decimated by AIDS - These countries cannot afford the extremely high cost of the drugs whose price has been controlled by the international phamaceutical conglomerates - however recently after some countries taking matters into their own hands and threatening too or creating generic versions of the drugs have the drug conglomerates agreed to make available their treatments at reduced cost to these poor countries - usually at a price still too high for them to afford. Then many of these countries don't even have the infrastructure to deliver the drugs if they were available to those who need them.

A friend of mine is HIV+ and is currently taking the latest protese inhibitors which have kept his HIV in check. Fortunately for him medicare picks up the tab which is $1100.00 per MONTH.

In some sub-saharan African nations the annual average earings are about $100 - $200 per year - SO THEY DIE!!

I know what happens. I went to that thing in December. Lots of doctors from Harvard School of Public Health, which is next to my school, go down into third world countries to treat patients for free. It's amazing the stories they tell.

Yes, bush is enlisting aid, but he's also be sneaky about it. His newest resolution calls for aid ONLY to those who do NOT perform abortions. So basically clinics who do abortions to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS get NO aid whatsoever. Bush says it's his way of keeping with his platform of pro-life. It's BS if you ask me. It's a way to redirecting money.

It's all a fasad, Bush and aid to third world countries. In this issue, Bill Frist needs to pay a visit to the White House and slap Bush.

Congratulations on seeing through the politics of Bush's motivations!!

However as much as I would like to tell Bush to take that money and stick it up his *** it would not be appropriate as long as some of the bucks help some of the people that's still more then if he just ignored the problem all together - his hard core constituency of the fundamentalist far right (so called ) Christians would like to see none of this money allocated to AIDS so he has found a compromise that they grudgenly accept. He is truly a politicians politican -

I PRAY DAILY THAT HE CAN FOLLOW IN HIS DADDY'S FOOTSTEPS A ONE TERM BUSH!!!!
