Question !!!Hello Fellow Jaguarians!!!

    HELLO!

I 'signed up' for a V200 account on JaguarPC last night at 3:00 in the morning, after a week of scouring the net for a new web host. From reading the threads on this web board, I presume it's going to take 24-72 hours for my account to be finalized. In the meantime, I thought I would jump-start the DNS propagation process. Does anyone see a problem with this? Here's the deal:

I'm a Teamster Vice President and don't have a lot of free time. I work 16 hours a day; 6-7 days a week. I spend the other 8 hours eating, sleeping, shaving, showering, defecating, et cetera. Luckily, I have a few minutes off 'n' on during the day when I can access the web (via dedicated T3 ), but no 'quality' time until I'm at home, blah, blah, blah...

I was setup for automatic renewal with my last web host, but somehow they lost my credit card info. The 'auto process' worked fine for the last couple of years, but not this cycle. Go figure!

I received an e-mail from them, the Friday before last, saying I had 2 business days to make arrangements to renew my account or they would suspend it. This was my one 'n' only notice.

Sales is closed on weekends; figured I would call them Monday.

Monday, I wake up and find out my web site was suspended. To make things worse, after doing business with them for 3 years, they try to make me look like a flake.

Goodbye, old host! Hello, JaguarPC! I wouldn't deal with Ready Hosting again if they were giving accounts away for free...
Since my site is down anyway, I thought I would go ahead and redirect my DNS numbers at Dotster and get the propagation process rolling. This would have the desired side-effect of pointing the domain name away from the 'flame screen' my former host has attached to my web site.

It is my understanding that these are the numbers I should use:

    ns.jaguarpc.net 66.227.56.27
    ns2.jaguarpc.net 66.227.63.0

So, my fellow Jaguarians, any comments?

Effectively, I would be 'parking' my domain name here for a couple of days (albeit unresolvable, e.g. dead link), before my account kicks in, but I don't know if I'm just asking for more trouble, you know? I don't want to make my new web host mad at me, right out of the chute...

Any reason I shouldn't go ahead and do this? Mods? Anyone?

    Thanks!

    Hi! Welcome here to JaguarPC

I think there's no problem if you modify your DNS now. But if you want to be sure about it, wait for an official response from support staff, or create yourself a support ticket here.

Feel like home now, and my best wishes here @ JaguarPC.

If you're sure that there will be no problems in your signup (no porn, etc), you would be smart to change the DNS early. Name Servers around the world will need to propogate the info so the sooner the better.

    Thanks guys!

My site is 'old school.' No naughty stuff, et cetera. It's mostly a financial web site with an integrated Yahoo-style database. I get 1000's of submissions a week, but don't accept 99.9% of them. I usually just FTP in and delete the db file. No way I can check them all out, so I just use the shotgun approach and kill them all.

We're one of those places that 'they' use in those "Submit your site to 10,000 search engines for $99.00" deals. I hate getting spammed by those ppl, but what are you gonna do?

Anyway, thanks! Looking forward to being hosted here...

    Woo hoo!!! That was quick!

I'm on a 'public' terminal right now, so I don't want to login into the JPC server[s] from this machine. However, I just checked my mails and it looks like my account is activated and I'm ready to rock 'n' roll. Good going, Jag! Less than 12 hours to setup an account...

I redirected the DNS numbers a few hours ago, so all I need to do is wait for the changes to propagate. So far; so good!

    Thanks again!

    Well, here's the latest...

To recap: It took less than 12 hours for my JaguarPC account to be fully activated. During this time, I redirected my DNS numbers at Dotster, starting the propagation process.

Last night, when I got home, I thought I'd better check 'things' out. Everything looked fine, so I FTP'ed into my account, uploaded the main page to the HTTP directory, and transferred 21 MB of graphic files into their own directory ( /images/). When I went to my new IP, as expected, the home page came up, minus the graphics. This was because the HTML code is pointing to the graphics at HTTP://Lenon.com/images/, and, of course, the DNS numbers hadn't kicked in yet.

I just checked my site, from this public terminal, and the zone files have already changed here. www.Lenon.com came up just fine, with all the graphics, et cetera. I haven't got the site totally setup yet, but it's good enough for now.

As a test, I went to Lenon.com through my favorite proxy server www.Megaproxy.com. The DNS numbers hadn't propagated to Eastern Europe yet, however, this is to be expected at this point.

Everything has been very seamless and quick so far, with no unexpected problems; not even the 'usual' stuff. I am extremely happy with JaguarPC thus far...

I've gone through this process many times in the past. The DNS progagation part is ALWAYS the hardest part for me. You just have to be patient. In my experience, it takes 3-4 full days for your DNS numbers to be updated in all the zone files around the world. Dotster updates their files hourly, then the numbers spread around the world, almost like a worm.

Once the zone files start changing locally, I know the process has begun. By the time the changes hit www.Megaproxy.com, I know the process is complete. You might want to stick this information in the back of your mind for future reference.

    Onward and upward...

    HAHAHAHAHAHA! This place is unbelievable!!

I tried to shell into my account a few minutes ago, only to find out SSH was disabled. So, I came over to the web board and did a search. I read a couple of posts saying I had to submit a ticket to get SSH turned on. That's what I did.

At 4:11AM I turned in a support ticket; figured Tech Support might get around to it in a day or two - whatever.

At 4:46AM I got an eMail saying that the ticket was received; figured it was an autoresponder. Nobody is up at 4AM except for me.

At 4:49AM I got another eMail saying:
    Hello John,
I have enabled shell access for your account.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Susy.
OMG!!! Do these 'guys' rock or what?!?!?!?
