    whoa what happened?

Whoa, I know I dropped off the face of the planet for a while, but what's going on? The environment is not as friendly as it used to be and I notice all these new people.

Hey, I miss the usual fun we have in here. Let's bring it back.

Hmm, I hope they haven't caused too much problems. Well, I also sensed hostility namely due to current events. I'd just wish people would chill and wait it all through, economy too. Getting hostile doesn't help whatsoever.

Maybe it's just me, but EVERYONE is depressed around me and it sucks. Smile folks. As Edmund said in Shakespeare's King Lear: It's not the worst if you can say it's the worst. or something along those lines.

Gee, is it unreasonable to expect that even after moving servers several times that one might actually stay up? Gosh, I knew I was paying for something each month. I'd say people have a right to be quite unhappy. I know I am.

I count my blessings daily. But the service is still unacceptable.

I've spent too much time in the last 6 months dealing with people who rely on my domain for e-mail forwarding complaining about not getting their mail and downtime I had nothing to do with. I'm tired of it. Aletia, carbon, hydrogen, where does it end?

    then move on brs

I aggree with you clio, people around me have been depressedever since war has broken out, and people are getting frustrated. On things like jaguar, well people complain, thats what people do, they have nothing better todo, and these complainers aren't the only ones paying for a service I also pay for it, Yes its annoying but hell, Jaguar knows about it and getting angry at them aint gonna make it go faster.

Anywho nice to have you back Clio and it has been a bit down around here, I know this would happen, we aint got the same atmosphere here as we did on aletia

The problem is that this is constant on basically every server I've been on with Aletia/Jaguar. Something happens and the system is down for the better part of a day. I know they have a lot on their plate and want to deliver good service. I also have LOTS of better things to do than complain. You think I enjoy this? I just want the service I paid for. Thats all I want.

Also remember I am on the receiving end of unhappiness from everyone who has an alias through the domain. That's several people who call me up to complain that their not getting e-mail.

I'm paying for a service to be available. I expect it to be, otherwise I'd save the $100+ a year I spend. Over the last 6 months it's been a real pain. I don't use much bandwidth or space, I just need a box with solid uptime. I haven't been very lucky in that respect.

That is my complaint. I feel it is a legitimate one that deserves to be addressed.

I don't know what server you are on, but personally, My site has been pretty stable, not a rock but you can't expect that these days, how ever this is a new current thing and many things are happening (Such as new servers, replacements and purchesing companys ) I know this is hard, and yes it is a pain in the royal arse but sit tight things will get better, as they always do!

Hrm... Well, that begs the question --- do you need all the features they provide here? If all you need is a web presence, i.e. "a box with solid uptime", then maybe you should consider a service like Yahoo! GeoCities.

I had web space on Phrantics's Trailerpark, years ago. I think they started this whole web community thing. When they folded, I moved to GeoCities. I don't remember either one of them every being down, and they were free.

Then there's the ISP route. I have never had an ISP that didn't offer free web space with my internet account. For instance, I have 5MB of web space and 3 eMail accounts with my current provider. I don't even know how to access it. I mean, like who cares? But, if all you need is "a box with solid uptime", maybe this is your answer.

One of the biggest problems here, if you think about it, is they offer too much for too little. So, this place attracts a rather low class of individual; hobbyists and experimenters for the most part. That alone is enough to bring most systems down. Thank god they don't have route access!!!

Then there's the features that draw these ppl to JagPC, like flies to sugar. Take me for example. I've been wanting to try a blogger called PHP-Nuke for some time. Many web hosts will kick you off their system for installing PHP-Nuke. On JagPC, it's available through the auto-install feature. I'm surprised you can't auto-install IRC bots here. Most web hosts don't allow that either.

So, my friend, while I understand your frustration, all I can say is maybe there is a better solution for you sitting right under your nose, like the ISP route.

I checked this place out before I signed up. I knew exactly what I was getting into, and I haven't been disappointed. I consider it to be advanced Tinker Toys. It's like sitting at a playground watching children make sand castles, only to see them cry when it all falls down --- or going to the zoo and watching monkeys slip and fall on banana peels.

Anyway, enough of this rant. I hope you see where I'm coming from. I'm just trying to offer an alternative point of view, and a viable solution to your problem...

I appreciate your contribution. Yahoo and Geocities mostly would meet my needs. Except for the limited e-mail addresses, subdomains and a pathetic amount of storage. I also really like a well equipped UNIX shell. The thing that has kept me here the longest is the shell..

And the ISP route is appealing, but I need just a little more.

    Thank you for your help.

I've been on stingray (aletia), carbon (disaster), hydrogen, and one other that was problematic. I can't win.

I believe Hydrogen had a 120 day uptime before I got there. (Which is excellent.) Now it's -- undergoing surgery.

    I can't win.

Maybe I can. I just got most of my files back courtesy of Masood.

Literally the best thing to happen to me in the last 48 hours.

    Thanks!
