    Server Log

I am wondering if anyone uses or knows of a program that runs in windows 98 se and will let me scan server logs for IP addresses. I am wanting to know when certain search engines scan my site.

I prefer it to be free since I can write my own if there isn't one.

    Thanks
    Michael

Not sure if there is a program that actually takes in server logs and filters out the IP addresses from them but from my point of view, the easiest way to keep track of the IP addresses that actually hit your site would be to use SSI or include a php script in your site that simply keeps track of all the visitors' ip addresses - this way you can simply Ctrl-F and find the specific IP address you're looking for...

would be fairly simple to write in PHP but there are several visitor logging scripts out there such as:

    http://www.c-u-online.net/freescripts/index.php
    http://www.ezboo.com/softs/descript_uk.php

I found those at http://www.hotscripts.com - might wanna browse through their huge collection of useful scripts

I would also recommend doing what John said as it will be much easier and faster. If you want to get a little more advanced you could use the Where tag to get IPs out of a database which would be kind of like a search.
    Good Luck,
    Paul
