    Jaguarpc.com site feedback

Congratulations on the new site, Jag. It looks very professional. However, I do have a few comments. I'd like to draw your attention to the following text, that appears on the home page.

Aletia Hosting provides high quality, reliable hosting solutions at prices anyone can afford. Click here to check out our hosting plans.

Why Aletia? We have our own state-of-the-art data center, full staff of highly skilled professionals, extensive security features, and a reliable, stable, high-performance connection to the internet backbone.

Rest assured that hosting with Aletia is a totally hassle-free experience, your data is safe, your site is working properly, and you’re backed by the industry’s best customer support.
I noticed that you call yourself Aletia several times! Your not changing your name, are you? I am gussing this part is just left over from the Aletia site makeover. Also, the copyright says 2002. Don't live in the past. Also, several pages of the site are still using the old design, such as the helpdesk. I am sure other's will point out other problems as they are discovered. Overall, I think the site looks very nice. Good work, and bring on HostGUI!

Another thing I noticed is that you haven't made good use of margins or whitespace. Each of the tables take up the entire width of the page. That is not a good thing. I'm taking a design class, and I have been taught that not having any whitespace on a page is bad in terms of marketing.

You would think that on the day following such a huge site makeover, they would have some staff on hand to address concerns!

Heh, I must have missed some last time I reported them. Unless they were retyped.

Glad to see you here Jag. Wouldn't it be just as easy to copy and paste the whole text, and run it through MS Word's Spell Check? That should catch everything.

I liked the old site better. It had a life.
This one looks like it was made from $20 template. Boring...

But I guess this is a minority opinion, so you can just ignore it

WHOA! I didn't even notice it changed until I went there today... Does this mean HostGUI is coming soon ;D ???

I like it. there are a few display problems in Firebird though, mainly that bottom table with the Services... The background of the picture and the background of the table don't match up.

That's print design There is a big difference in how web design works, but many principles are the same. Whitespace is always good, but on the web, people want information, they don't want to have to scroll to get it. When I load up the site, in my 1024x768 I see a lot of space that could have been used to hold information. I see a short summary of the company and something about 24hours support. I see an ad for dedicated servers. Actually, I would prefer less whitespace (be it blue, white, or orange). I have to scroll down to see anything about plans that most people would care about on the main page.

The links up at the top should have more contrast with their background. They aren't hard to see, but the are easy to miss. That is the only problem I have with the new design.

    Good job Jag!

    Looks nice.

Plenty of space on my 1280x1024 screen too. Like Matt I could use more content instead of white, especially the right hand side goes soo unused.

Curious about when there'll be something under the 'affiliates' button.

Is the client login by https:// ? I couldn't tell, but I would really want it to be. If it already is, maybe label is 'secure login'?

From the new client section the 'policies' and 'contact us' links under the logo do not work.

But having them design to encorporate data in that white space is also a bad thing, considering the large number of people using the default 800x600 resolution. Not only would they have to scroll to see data in that margin, they'd have to scroll sideways. Hence, they might never see it.

I agree with Celeron. Also, I was not talking about there not being any whitepsace to the right of the content, I was talking about the 1 pixel margin to the left of the content, or between the content and the login bar. It should be increased to at LEAST 10 or even 20 pixels. Doing this will not have that drastic an effect as far as how long the page is.

I was wondering how long it might be until we get that new ticket system that was talked about a few weeks back.

Also, now that the new layout is running, when can we have a hosted by Jag button?

The beauty of HTML/CSS is that it can be written in such a way that it will automatically adapt to the screen width available. In most cases this is a matter of using percentages instead of absolute numbers where it comes to table widths and screen area.

Aside from that please note that 800x600 is no longer the 'standard resolution'. If such a thing exists it is 1024x768, listed by my statistics as used by 70% of all visitors. 800x600 is used by only 7% (with only a 4% unkown in this statistic and the remaining 19% for resolutions above 1024x768).

The overall web standard right now IS 800x600, but 1024x768 is gaining popularity quickly...
