The control panel is different today

The control panel has changed, at least for me. Is this a new Cpanel version, an Aletia Panel version, or something different and new ( or perhaps old?)

If new, ( and if developed by in-house folks at jaguarPC), are comments and suggestions OK?

It looks like this, from the outside- inward....
A white background, A thin grey rounded-edge rectangle, then 3 columns.

The first column has Account Information stuff.
The 2nd column has small graphic icons for Mail, Services, Tools, and simple text links to all the actual features.
The 3rd column has small icons for FTP, Scripts, Statistics, Support.
and simple text links to all these actual features.

Above the 2nd and 3rd columns, is a box that says "Welcome to the new Control Panel" and a paragraph of text.

This all seems to new to me, compared to what I remember, which was a generally blue background on most pages, Cpanel written boldly across top. There used to be Icons for each and every feature, but half the time, the descriptive text didn't show with every icon.

You are describing the current control panel, I think you may have just gotten the new theme now instead of several months ago for some reason.

I'm not currently hosted on Jag but I do check back once in a while. I used to be hosted on unlucky MERCURY which apparently got closest to the sun during the last Malaysian hacker meltdown. The seemingly endless downtime hastened my exit.

One of my other hosts recently upgraded Cpanel to 7.1.0-RELEASE which included built-in Squirrelmail (in addition to the previous NeoMail and Horde). This is a great improvement especially for non-native-English users like my Chinese wife.

You might want to check to see if you have this new option.

This is how I access it :

cPanel 7 is still in beta. What you have is an edge release. Final should be out in the next 30 days. Check the forums at cpanel.net for more information

Your information seems to be out of date. Actually, if you check: http://layer2.cpanel.net/ you will see that:

    Cpanel-7.1.0-RELEASE_20-Linux-i686-glibc-2.1.tar.gz (Fri Jul 4 13:52:33 2003)

was made available on July 4.

The last BETA 7 release was Jun 23.

    Cpanel-7.0.5-BETA_15-Linux-i686-glibc-2.1 (Mon Jun 23 03:52:54 2003)

and the current "EDGE" release is:

    Cpanel-7.1.9-EDGE_63-Linux-i686-glibc-2.1.tar.gz (Thu Jul 10 15:41:21 2003)

Ahh. I see. cPanelJosh told me about a week and a half ago that it would be about 30 days until release. He was unaware that it was released until I discussed it with him just now. And upon looking at that page, I noticed this also.

    Latest Builds:
    Cpanel-7.1.8-RELEASE_45-Linux-i686-glibc-2.1.tar.gz (Mon Jul 7 22:58:01 2003)

It appears JagPC won't update till cpanel 7 STABLE is out. There are three release types: EDGE, RELEASE, and STABLE.

Hope Jag waits until "STABLE" is out before updating.

Seesh! We'll be waiting around FOREVER if we wait till STABLE comes out. Do you realize how far it is between stable releases? The regular release is pretty stable, and they come our more infrequently. I want updated AWStats soon!!!

I want HostGUI. I've never really liked CP and HostGUI promises to be so much better...

I agree with you Jason. I would really like HostGUI also, but that might be a while, and I want the new AWStats now!
