Is there any chance of getting TMDA installed in our accounts? Or any one know how to install it ourselves? Any help would be appreciated.

What is TMDA?

TMDA is what looks like a pretty nifty system that does the following:
- anyone who emails you gets a "please confirm this email address" email. if they do (non spammers) they get added to a list of addresses that get through to you. other wise, you don't get bothered with spam.
- generate a variety of emails that bypass the confirm function above, including expiring email addresses.

it looks like a nice system that would greatly cut down my spam... I think there are some other similar systems, but i didn't look into them too much.
that is nice... it will indeed reduce spam!![]()
Where do you wanna go today?
Definitively a great idea!!! I'm using a webmail application right now, and I will suggest this feature to the developers.

Since I'm back, I'm going to install it on my dedicated server. I've known about that product since last year. Its awesome.

Did any one find out if this can be installed on a virtual server?
Looks like it could be the solution to a lot of SPAM problems.

Well, after I asked jag to update Python to the required 2.2, I realized that the mail server that Jag is running does not have address extensions (username-foo@foo.com) enabled. For TMDA to work, these messages need to be routed to username above. I had a couple of domain names that I wanted this for, so I just ended up having another email only account on another server that already has TMDA configured. I would love it if Jag had a setup like this though...

That was quick. Thanks for the reply.

quick I am. hehee. Anyway, I think Jag would be able to install this with no problem. There is even a web interface for it (tmda-cgi). I installed the package on my home computer/server and fell in love with it. its effective and flexible.
A side note: to send out messages with this system, if you are using a standard (non-pine type) client, you also need to have a tmda-smtp server thingy running on the mail server. Again, I'm sure Jag could/would do this if there was enough pressure, especially since in my searchings, only about 2-3 web hosts provide this service at all. I just felt that at this point, I didn't have the time to spare to lobby jag to install it and set it up for me. Especially since they don't (or didn't for me) set up multiple domain names under the same account FOR MAIL.
The way I have had it up till now was my main domain name web/mail was hosted by jag, while other domains were hosted by jag for the web (under my same original account - multiply hosted domains or whatever), while mail for the other 3 domains was hosted by my home server. As a result, even if Jag did have TMDA set up, it would only work on one domain worth of mail if you have multiple hosted names...
Now I am going to transfer the other 3 domain names (for mail only) to this new service, potentially switching over my main one as well.
Supposedly, the newest version of Cpanel slipped a new version of Python in - so the Cpanel / Python incompatibility problem is resolved.
I have a ticket in asking for the support of TMDA - perhaps others should ask now..
Can someone who has used TMDA, please describe whether or not this would be viewed as "intrusive" to real people. If a real person takes the time to send an email to me, do they receive a custom email back, or a generic tmda email? and do they have to type some more stuff, visit a certain webpage, reply with a specific subject line, etc?![]()
It would be good to have a little more information. I may have missed it, but can someone post or re post a link to the program?

I may have misunderstood the previous post about "TMDA" but it is my understanding that the end user determines what he or she is going to receive. I don't think it has anything to do with the sender.
Of course I'm often wrong.

Thanks for pointing me to the link. It looks like a good program
for some situations and something Jag might want to support. However I would not use it. I will deal with my SPAM using MailWasher. The Reason I would not use TIMDA. I think our customers and potential customers would be offended, having to send a reply e-mail to their request for information. Also, It would slow down our response time to their request.
If TIMDA could be selective about the e-mail address then I would use it.
On the Other hand what happens to the e-mail TIMDA quarantines. At some point you are going to have to delete it. If I could review the quarantined e-mail and add the legitimate users to the white list then I would be a lot more interested.
It is a Pain in the butt, but I do all that TIMDA can do with Mail Washer.
Still TIMDA looks like a very good program that would fit a lot of users needs.
Thanks for bringing this upl
