Sounds like your site was being indexed by Inktomi's robot. See this thread in another forum for more.

Very likely you can block them from your site entirely (or portions of it) using a robots.txt file.

LoL! You read my mind, or vice-versa. I have a 'block' on my site that shows what ppl are doing, e.g. where they are on my site. Visitors only see 'Guest 01' or 'Guest 02'. I see the IP address[es] of the 'Guests'. I can always tell when a bot is indexing my site. It'll be in 10 different places, or whatever, and the IP's are always consecutive numbers. Weird stuff!

No problem about that one I would like my site being indexed like that

Spam bots usually register on your forums and start posting porn links on all the threads. It is all fixed with vbulletin 2.3.0 using the image verification thing.

Agreed. This would be a "problem" I wouldn't mind myself.

    |oR|Greg, being indexed by a major web crawler like Inktomi is something sought by many a webmaster. It's all part of the quest for online visibility and better search engine rankings.

But if you don't want the ENTIRE site indexed eventually, you can use a robots.txt file to block off the sections you want to hide from the search engines. It's an ordinary text file that you can make easily with any ASCII based text editor, much like an .htaccess file. It typically is placed in your root (www) folder.

This site offers much more on the subject. This one isn't as comprehensive, but it provides the basics for making your own robots.txt file.
