    Thumbs up WinSCP 3.1

I don't know how many WinSCP converts I've hatched, but for those of you using WinSCP2 or anyone interested in dumping FTP in favor of a totally secure alternative, WinSCP3 is now available.

    Highly recommended!

    Vin

Thanks!! I downloaded WinSCP3 and the improvements
are great. The addition of the Octal, and the ability to
view or edit files on the server are the main two main improvements
    I was glad to see.

I agree, and WinScp is a lot more powerful than Cute Pro.
I suggest that any one who wants to upload files in a secure
    mode look at WinScp3.

Best of all WinScp3 is Free!!! Can't beat that with a stick.

    Really?

I got myself CuteFTP Pro 3.0 (on evaluation) because WinSCP doesn't automatically sync directory trees (only single level directories) and doesn't work on a timer either - though maybe the TaskPlanner could help out for that last bit.

I read the change logs after Vins "3.1" post but didn't notice this functionality was added. Did I overlook something? I'm really waiting for that stuff to be added, as CutePro is ROTTEN! It doesn't do it's job, it just crashes or hangs.

[- I noticed it crashes whenever it gets a 'not allowed', instead of just logging 'I could do blah, blah'. And since I'm backupping a Linux box, but not as root.. Sometimes it takes my system (WinXP pro) down with it.
    - Which is another thing: I'd like to be able to do an 'su' or 'sudo' through the SCP/SFTP utility: I want keep a synchronized backup of a whole system, but the shell access user is obviously not 'root'.
    - Recently it doesn't even manage to open a connection (SFTP). It just keeps hogging my CPU (stays at 100%) indefinately.]

Heh! Makes FTP and Telnet look toys, huh?
