    SpamAssassin Configuration

ok, i'm sure this questions has been asked, but how are you all configuring your SpamAssassin? can we see some examples?

mine once flagged Subject lines as "SPAM" and it was easy to filter them into a JUNK folder, but no longer does that for soem reason. i've now looked into how exactly to configure the user_prefs file to but it's a bit over my head.

so, anyone have any advice for a newbie? configurations that work well?

I only have a minute, so I'll make it quick...

I use Outlook 2000. In it, I have a folder called 'Spam.' I have SpamAssassin enabled on my mail server. SpamAssassin puts a header on spam when it sends it to you. So, I pick a phase out of the header and write a rule in Outlook that says any message containing 'that text' in the body shall be automatically sent to the Spam folder. It's as easy as that.

I could just as easily have the rule delete the mail after it is received, delete the mail on the server, or whatever. However, I like to see how much spam I get every month, so I just let it tally up the total. I don't bother reading the spam. I just look at the folder link and see it has 7000 unread spams in it.

I delete everything out the spam folder once a month...

see, for some reason i can;t get the Apple Mail rules to work in this case. i know how to set up that rule, but it won;t work for some reason. which is why i'm resorting to the SpamAssassin configs.
