    Question Strange Site Behaviors

I've got a couple of problems and I don't know where to begin or what the issue is...

First... If I go here http://www.inpolicy.org/index.html I get an error that says:

The requested URL /index.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Apache/1.3.28 Server at admin.scoreidaho.com Port 80

Hmm...I disagree...the file IS there. It's just a basic splash page with an image and some text...nothing big...nothing that should be an issue.

Second... In addition to the site above, I have set up "development" site that the owner and I have been working off of. I've been experiencing some problems and pulled all of the files out of this directory except the same page as above (this URL is http://testing.inpolicy.org/index.html. This page comes up fine. If I try to go to http://testing.inpolicy.org/index.php I get an error message indicating that there's an error in a line of a file that isn't even there! How is THAT possible? I've hit refresh...I've closed the browser...

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!!

not sure about the php file but i am able to see both the:

    http://www.inpolicy.org/index.html

    and

    http://testing.inpolicy.org/index.html

with no problem, i do see the error when i point the browser to the .php index file, don't know much php yet to help with that one, but as far as the other two are concerned they are fine to me. they are both splash pages of Indiana Policy Review.

Hmmm...both splash do work now. I SWEAR it wasn't working and I did get that error message...and tonight wasn't the first time.

Now when I try to get to the http://testing.inpolicy.org/index.php page it comes up blank rather than with an error message. It's almost like there's some sort of incredible lag between what I do and what actually appears...strange....

Looks like you have a DNS problem. Better contact tech support. I can't go to your site using your domain name. http://66.227.19.244/index.html takes me right there however. The name just isn't resolving.

    http://66.227.19.244/index.php works fine too...

The site resolves fine for me, both html pages come up, but on the testing page the image doesn't. I get a 404 error when I try to go to the php page.

The domain names still aren't resolving for me...

How long has it been since you set this up? If it's only been a couple of days, that's the problem. It takes 3-4 days in my experience for DNS numbers to 'kick in.'

    Thanks for your messages, guys!

Vin, I set this up earlier this month. Everything seemed to be working fine over the last few weeks and this week it's not been doing so well...I am glad to see that you're seeing/experiencing the same thing I am.

I'm getting a bit frantic...this site has to go live on Tuesday and I'm moving this weekend...I DON'T need this down time. ;-)

    Thanks!

They're both coming up for me now, but evidently you don't have an index.html file in your root webserver directory. That's why you're getting a 404 when you try to go to it. If you simply type in your domain name, it resolves just fine, but whatever (blank) file is displaying isn't named index.html.

Okay, duh! This is the file that's coming up:

    http://www.inpolicy.org/index.php

    ...not:

    http://www.inpolicy.org/index.html

    Thanks, Vin!!

My move is FINALLY done (well, except for the unpacking...) and now I'm back on this. I've submitted a support ticket and am off to finish a couple of other things for the site...it's supposed to be live tomorrow...

Thanks SO much for your help!
