BTW, I keep forgetting to mention this, but to those of you smart enough to use WinSCP instead of plain ol' unsecure FTP (ahem) JagPC supports SSH2, so login using SSH2 and save the session.

Hello?!?!?! You're paying for secure shell access here; you might as well use it! It doesn't get any better than this, folks!
What is the difference between SSH1 and SSH2?

Answer: SSH1 and SSH2 are two entirely different protocols. They encrypt at different parts of the packets. SSH1 uses server as well as host keys to authenticate systems whereas SSH2 only uses host keys. SSH2 is a complete rewrite of the protocol, and it does not use the same networking implementation that SSH1 does and hence is more secure.
Matt: LoL! I hope you are, at least, using software made in this century...

I like that program. It's very nice. I find it to better then some of the FTP programs I used.

Thanks for the post about this program.

Yeah, Konquerer is updated fairly regularly, and when I installed Linux I was running the newest version...

Matt, I think the point is that the FTP protocol is 18 years old and SSH1, SSH2, S-FTP are newer and more secure. But I am e that you knew that since Debian no doubt comes with SSH installed as well, I do not know if it is built into the GUI.

Heck, even MacOS has SSH now so why fling files the old fashion way. Anyway, I get fewer timeouts and faster transfers with SSH so that is why I stepped into this century.

    Matt,

Use what you are comfortable with. That's what everyone should do.

Personally I prefer WinSCP to all the FTP clients I have. WinSCP is the
first SSH program that I could use. I'm 59 years old and do not have the
background you do at what 17? I wish I had your background.

I don't have your background, knowledge, and memory. I never will have.

I feel like you are knocking anyone who uses something you do not personally
indorse at times. I'm sure that is not what you mean but that is the way
it comes across to this old man.

Actually what you convey to me is "This is what I like and I won't consider
anything else". That should be my attitude, not the attitude of someone in
    your age bracket.

I'm not tryingto convey that, I'm just trying to share the coolness of it.

    Matt,

What have you found that is so Cool? You have made several references to "Konquerer", but you have never provided a link or any additional information. If you want to share you Cool info why not provide a way for us to easily find out more about what you find to be Cool?

I'm glad you were not insulted by my previous post. Believe me there was no insult intended. I have a lot of respect for you. But if my failing memory serves me correctly any time you have responded to any post about WinSCP, you have referred to "Konquerer" without supplying anymore information.

Since you think "Konquerer" is the answer, have you tried WinSCP? Just curious.

    Have a great week end.

    Connie,

Konqueror is the file management component of KDE, a desktop manager for the Linux operating system. Konqueror contains a file manager (similar to Windows' Explorer), a web browser, FTP client, etc. I've never used it myself, but I am familiar with it.

Here's a link (http://www.konqueror.org/), although, unless you are running a Linux box yourself, you won't get a whole lot of use from the site. Matt is obviously using Linux as a primary operating system.

    Matt,

FYI, there is a SCP front-end for KDE called KSCP that you may be interested in. I haven't seen it or used it, but if you want to give it a try, see http://apps.kde.com/na/2/info/id/925

Oh, thanks I'll check out that SCP link

I really just like the integration and ease of use for Konquerer, I think Its what Microsoft's File Manager thing should be, if they had done it right

I can take some screenshots when I get a chance, but I just like to share the happiness Since the last time I installed a Linux version, it has improved a ton, in just 2-3 years.

Wow, I just found out that SCP and SFTP are integrated too, I just didn't know how to access it

I'm gonna start using SCP stuff again

WinSCP is built on top of Putty.

BTW WinSCP 3.3 is out now...
    Version 3.3 (#177) September 15th 2003

...Current session settings can be exported to PuTTY and opened with this SSH terminal client (Ctrl-P).

...SSH core upgraded to current development snapshot of PuTTY (2003-09-12).
It's a better Putty than Putty, if you will..

    ason,

Thanks for the info. "Konqueror" is something I will not be able to try.
I have enough problems with windows. I'm not going to complicate
my life any more than it is with trying to add Linux.

My Issue with Matt is any time a post comes up about WinSCP,
Matt gets involved in the discussion with how he uses "Konqueror".

It looks to me like Matt has never tried WinSCP. If he has and
doesn't like WinSCP that is fine. But for him to continually
refer to "Konqueror" without providing any additional info is
in bad taste in my poor opinion.

I'm not a champion of WinSCP like "Vin" is. However I find it to
be a very simple program for anyone that wants a secure interface.

Jason, as always you are very helpful.
